Japan shows its willingness to support Da Nang to pursue environmentally-friendly project
Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment held an online press conference on Monday at the city-based Trung Vuong Theatre for representatives from relevant agencies in Da Nang, and those from such international organisations as the Norwegian Embassy in Viet Nam, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Yokohama City (Japan), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The event was held for the announcement of the project ‘Building Da Nang into an Environmentally-friendly City’ for the 2021 – 2030 period, and an arts programme carrying its theme of Clearwater Revival.
In remarks at the event, Department of Natural Resources and Environment Director To Van Hung said that specific objectives for the project ‘Building Da Nang into an environmentally-friendly City’ for the 2021 – 2030 period are made in accordance with the requirements of international and Viet Nam Environmental Laws.
The project’s specific objectives are divided into key groups, namely environmental pollution prevention and control, environmental improvement, the solving of key environmental problems, the conservation of nature and biodiversity, capacity building and raising public awareness of environmental protection, Mr Hung added.
Mr Hung also highlighted vital role of the project in helping Da Nang become a environmentally-friendly city, and releasing its goals of building an eco-city which is an essential approach for create sustainable development for the time being.
He also said Da Nang is in need of specical support from international organisations to realise its sustainable development goals.
On behalf of leaders of the city of Yokohama in Japan, Mr Naoki Mori said the government of the city of Yokohama is willing to support Da Nang to pursue environmentally-friendly project. He remarked that the assistance would be given to increasing public involvement in environmental protection, creating a sustainable and circular economy, and faciliating the city to switch to low-carbon development path.
Mr Yasuhiko Hotta from the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) expressed his belief that Da Nang would become the most environmentally friendly city in Viet Nam and Southeast Asia in the near future.
“We will also give a helping hand to Da Nang to pursue such environmental projects as the waste treatment and the waste classification.” Mr Mr Yasuhiko Hotta said.
In addition, the arts programme carrying its theme of Clearwater Revival was also introduced at the online press conference. The programme will take place at Da Nang-based Trung Vuong Theatre in April 29, 2021 as part of Da Nang’s activities to promote the ‘Building Da Nang into an Environmentally-friendly City’ project.
The arts programme will present impressive music performances and circus show featuring Viola Nguyet Thu- international artist, and circus performers from Ha Noi, and more.
