Da Nang paves way for development of supporting industries

The Standing Board of the Da Nang Party Committee has issued Resolution No. 01-NQ/TU dated October 30, 2020 on the development of supporting industries in Da Nang to 2030, with a vision towards 2045. Accordingly, supporting industries, along with high-tech and information technology (IT), will become the major pillars of the city's industry.

In a recent interview with DA NANG Newspaper, Director of the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade Le Thi Kim Phuong revealed plans and orientations needed implementing in the coming time in order to effectively implement the goals set out by Resolution 01-NQ/TU.

Simply put, the Resolution requires the city's political system to participate in the implementation of specific orientations, solutions and policies on the development of supporting industries in the new stage. In particular, it is a must-do to enhance Da Nang’s competitive advantages in attracting investment inflows into the fields of high-tech, electronics and IT industries.

The Resolution targets groups of solutions to promote the development of the city's supporting industries in a relatively comprehensive and right way.

In general, focus will be on innovating the growth model, promoting strong industrial development, prioritising supporting industries, developing infrastructure, perfecting mechanisms and policies to promote supporting industries, improving the capacity and competitiveness of supporting enterprises, and enhancing the efficiency of State management and linkages amongst supporting industries.

As for specific plans, competent agencies must implement a number of key contents such as put under-construction industrial parks into operation and new industrial clusters as soon as possible to secure land fund for potential investment projects.

Also, relevant agencies have to task themselves with formulating and perfecting policies to attract investment inflows into the Da Nang Hi-Tech and IT parks. In particular, special attention must be paid to attracting large-scale production and assembly projects, which may simultaneously appeal for other investment projects in supporting industries.

Heed will be paid to supporting the formation of laboratories and the trial production of high-tech supporting industry products in research and development (R&D) sub-divisions in the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park.

Another plan is to strengthen linkages and cooperation at home and abroad to promote the supply and demand of supporting industry products and attracting new projects in the supporting industries.

It is a need to establish a technical centre for supporting the regional industrial development in the Supporting Industrial Park of the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park.

Last, but not least, importance will be attached to proactively developing a strategy to train high-quality human resources for the supporting industries in order to meet development needs in the coming time.

The Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade has submitted a draft report on mechanisms and policies for the sake of supporting industries across the city to the municipal Party Committee for approval in the spirit of Resolution No. 01-NQ/TU.

In line with Resolution No 01-NQ/TU from the Da Nang Party Committee, supporting industry enterprises will increase in number by 2030 and be capable of producing highly-competitive products, focusing on spare parts, software, and key services in support of priority industries. Da Nang will also attract multi-national groups to guide and facilitate technology transfer.

By 2025, Da Nang expects to have over 150 supporting enterprises, with at least 10 percent of domestic supporting enterprises being able to supply products to manufacturers. The value of the supporting industry will make up around 30 percent of added valued in the manufacturing and processing sector. At least one multi-national group or company is to invest in manufacturing end products.

Of the more than 300 supporting enterprises to be in business by 2030, at least 15 percent are to be able to directly supply products to manufacturers and assemblers. The value of the supporting industry will account for nearly 40 percent of added value in the manufacturing and processing sector and at least one multi-national group or company will invest in manufacturing end products.
