Da Nang mobilises resources for urban economic development to 2030

The Prime Minister approved adjustments to the Da Nang Master Plan for its major developments to 2030, with a vision to 2045 on March 15, 2021. Under the adjustments, the city aims to become a major socio-economic center of Vietnam and Southeast Asia, a hub for entrepreneurship, innovation, tourism, commerce, finance, logistics, high-technology, IT, and supporting industries, a center for culture-sports, high-quality education and healthcare, and science and technology, and a destination for regional and international events. In particular, the adjustments identify investment projects for urban economic development, in which traffic development projects serve as the driver of the local growth.

The push from transport infrastructure

A total of 23 transport infrastructure projects have just been approved for urban development planning. The highlights in the local transport infrastructure picture is the development of the Lien Chieu deep-sea mega-port project with an investment capital of more than VND 3,426 billion.

With regard to rail traffic, the relocation of the Da Nang Railway Station and urban redevelopment project is expected to cost a total of VND 11,295 billion in the build-transfer (BT) form.

As for air traffic, the expansion ofTerminal T1 at the Da Nang International Airport will be funded by the state budget.

Many traffic projects creating other economic development resources mainly use capital from investors such as logistics centres and warehouses, covering a combined total of about 229 hectares, including those in services for the would –be Lien Chieu deep-sea mega-port and the new Kim Lien Station, the Da Nang High-Tech Park, Hoa Nhon IP, Tien Sa Port and the aviation industry.

The development of a tunnel connecting the city’s International Airport with its road network in the western part, a tunnel stretching under the Han River in order to ease traffic congestion, and a bridge connecting Bui Ta Han Street in Ngu Hanh Son District and the 29 March Street in Hoa Xuan Eco-Urban Area in Cam Le District are at the heart of Da Nang's strategic planning and development plans.

Amongst key projects in Da Nang calling for domestic and foreign investment over the 2020 - 2025 period, there is a massive public transportation system featuring metros and tramways worth VND 54,500 billion in total and a metro line connecting Da Nang and Hoi An valued at 7,497 - 14,995 billion VND.

Likewise, the city centre will see upgrade on major routes, such as Le Duan route connecting with Dong Da route creating a connecting axis from Dien Bien Phu to 3 February streets; Hoang Hoa Tham route running through Nguyen Tat Thanh route (running through the existing railway station) to create the main connecting axis from Nguyen Huu Tho - Le Dinh Ly - Hoang Hoa Tham - Nguyen Tat Thanh in order to reduce volume of traffic passing through adjacent roads.

Empowering urban economic development

Under the adjusted master plan, Da Nang is in need of more than 232,000 billion VND in the 2020-2025 period, and over VND 63,000 billion  in the 2025-2030 period to carry out major projects. In total, VND 295,000 billion VND is required to realise the goal of Da Nang Master Plan to 2030.

There will be key future projects in Da Nang, including a complex of financial, commercial, service and entertainment centres, a cultural and entertainment park southeast of the city’s 2 September Peace Monument, the VinaCapital Da Nang golf course, the complex of facilities in service of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, a theme park to the south of the Son Tra Peninsula, the Ba Na - Suoi Mo eco-tourism complex, the Ba Na Hills tourist area, the Lang Van integrated resort tourist area, and the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort.

In addition, the city will focus on high-tech development with a total area of about 1,710 ha of land, including Da Nang High-Tech Park and Expanded High-Tech Park; Dedicated Information Technology Park No. 1 and No. 2; Software Park No. 1, No. 2, No. 3. At the same time, an Innovation Cluster in the south of Da Nang associated with Da Nang University Village, an Innovation Center and a Software Park will be created.

The Da Nang Master Plan for major developments by 2030 with a vision towards 2045 gives Da Nang a lot of room for development. Public investment projects act as a driving force to attract investment resources from the community and diversify investment types, thus contributing to promoting the city's development in new periods.
