Da Nang issues warning about new online shopping scam amid stay-at-home mandates

The Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade are warning the public to be aware of fake social medial accounts involving the use of social media platforms to set up fake online stores to sell food and essentials amid the city’s strict stay-at-home mandates.

Many people in Da Nang have been scammed and these victims have lost money due to online shopping fraudsters and scams. Online shoppers are increasingly vulnerable to scammers who create fake social medial accounts and offer unknown phone numbers, requesting payment through non-secure methods.

The Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade has received complaints of victims who have lost money due to online shopping fraudsters and scams amid the city’s strict stay-at-home mandates. Anyone who orders their groceries from online delivery services is being warned of a new scam which could catch them out.

In order to avoid online shopping scams, Da Nang people are advised to only order food and essential goods via hotline/zalo/facebook of accredited supermarkets, convenience stores and food distributors. You can also ask for help from management boards in your places of residence to order food items during this period.

The municipal Department of Industry and Trade is working with authorities at local level and police to conduct investigations into the new online shopping scam, and will impose harsh punishments on scammers.
