"Secondhand" - a new fashion trend
A trend of buying secondhand clothes has been emerging among young customers, including those in Da Nang, because of reasonable prices, a variety of styles, and minimising its negative impact on the environment.
When it comes to secondhand clothes, people often think of huge piles of cheap clothes that buyers have to sit around to choose what they like. However, nowadays, secondhand clothes have been "upgraded" in terms of quality, and have become a new fashion trend thanks to their uniqueness, diversity and freshness.

Various styles
One night in midweek, the "Vin Boi – Super Cheap Secondhand Items" shop, located on Hai Phong Street was packed with customers looking for woolen dresses, Ghiles and coats, blazers, fleece and khaki jackets. Most of secondhand clothes on sale at the shop feature South Korean women's up-to-date fashion style and are very suitable for cold weather.
Nguyen Thi Hoai Nhu, 26, residing in Hai Chau District, said that she was a regular customer of second-hand shops, especially those specialising in selling warm clothes.
“Woolen items or coats, if bought new, are often very expensive, so I look for secondhand items which are not only cheap but also beautiful. Also, many of such products are difficult to find on the fashion market. So every winter, I have "new" clothes at a low cost" Ms. Nhu said excitedly.
As walking around the city, people will not find it difficult to see secondhand shops with eye-catching and impressive decorations. Each venue pursues its own fashion style suitable for all customers from lady to personality, from luxury, charm to youthful and dynamic.
If the Vin Boi shop is focusing on feminine clothing for the everyday modern women, the "Vintage Cow" shops on Dung Si Thanh Khe Street in Thanh Khe District and Ho Bieu Chanh Street in Hai Chau District specialise in dynamic street fashion style. The shops' popular products are tee (basic T-shirt with few textures or plain), velvet pants, velvet shirt and jeans.
33-year-old Nguyen Truong Tu, the owner of the "Vintage Cow" shop, said that the shop is aimed at students, so the price is quite soft, ranging from VND10,000 to several hundred thousand VND per product.
“I drop out of university at the end of the first year. After doing many jobs, I decided to start a business in 2018 with a limited capital of only 60 VND million" shared Tu.
At the beginning of his career, Tu's business operated at a loss due to his lack of experience. But until now, the "Vintage Bo" shop has been well-known by many young people citywide.
"Environmentally friendly" fashion
When travelling on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, few people think that the "Banh Housee" is a second-hand shop because of its unique and impressive design with many "chill" corners that are very poetic and photographed.
Fashion products on sale here are quite unique with vintage and classic styles. This is one of the things that the founders of "Banh Housee" focus on with the desire to change the perspective of secondhand clothes.
Nguyen Le Vi Trinh, a 27-year-old female resident of Cam Le District, who is co-founder of the "Banh Housee" shop, said that second-hand clothing business is important to me because of my passion about this type of fashion which can help wearers express their individuality and the uniqueness, and my determination to environmental protection.
“I love fashion but also know that the fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world. So, I hope, with "Banh Housee", I can make a small contribution to environmental protection. You can wear pre-loved items without worrying about the environmental impact of clothing overproduction " Trinh expressed.
Trinh revealed that her shop regularly organized dressing sharing sessions with the hope that young people will have more good suggestions to refresh their existing outfits.
It can be said that the changes in the way of doing business in secondhand clothes and in the new shopping attitude have made secondhand goods a trendy fashion trend.
