Recovery solutions proposed for Da Nang tourism industry
The Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centre has launched the survey of 2,534 people in Viet Nam from September 19 to October 24.
The survey was designed to help seek solutions to recover Da Nang tourism industry from COVID-19 as well as look at changes in the travel behaviour of domestic travellers during the COVID-19 pandemic, thereby developing solutions and tourism products suitable to them.
As a result, more than 2,500 proposals for the city’s tourism rebound have been collected from respondents. Their recommendations mainly focused on improving standards of health and safety in tourism businesses, ensuring good practice in infection prevention and control in tourism, conducting marketing campaigns, developing new tourism products, promoting sustainable tourism, and launching incentive programs.

Around 37.73% of survey respondents come from elsewhere in Central Viet Nam and Central Highlands, 36.17% from Ha Noi and other northern localities that are key visitor markets for Da Nang, and 26.1% from Ho Chi Minh City and other southern localities. About 79% of respondents travelled to Da Nang for sightseeing and relaxation while 11% of them were business guests.
The survey results indicate that 83% of respondents who have visited Da Nang only once or multiple times answered that Da Nang has become a familiar travel destination for them. The figure is up 10% from the 2020 survey, and new visitors account for 17.01% of the total respondents.
After facing four COVID-19 waves, domestic tourists have become more cautious. Nearly 42% of those surveyed don’t want to travel due to COVID-19 and they want wait until the COVID-19 outbreak is brought under control.
More than 29% of respondents plan to travel to Da Nang in late 2021 and 28% will visit the city in early 2022.
About 43.2% of those surveyed want to travel to Da Nang from 4-5 days, and 36% want to take a 2 to 3-day trip to the city. The figure is up 20% from the 2020 survey.
Nearly 70% of those surveyed want to travel to Da Nang by plane.
51.7% of respondents answered that their average travel cost is less than VND 5 million, VND 10 million with more than 33%, and VND 15 million - VND 20 million with 15%.
The results also indicate that there are three factors that influence Vietnamese people's travel plans, namely safety with over 75% of the respondents, COVID-19 vaccination coverage in travel destination with 68%, and policies to welcome tourists and support them in wake of COVID-19 with 51%.
