Da Nang mulls over development forecasting models for 2021 – 2030 period, with vision towards 2050
Addressing a Wednesday seminar on development orientations of infrastructure, urban areas and land as part of the draft master plan for Da Nang’s major developments during the 2021 – 2030 period, with a vision to 2050, Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairman Le Quang Nam hailed the draft plan for highlighting development forecasting models developed on right track.

Held in both online and offline forms, the event was co- chaired by Vice Chairman Nam and international architectural planning expert Ngo Viet Nam Son.
With regard to urban planning and social infrastructure, it was highly advisable to create an attractive investment environment and attract capital resources from the whole society with a focus on integrating the development of the airport urban area with socio-economic progress strategies so as to create strong economic aspects.
It was also highly recommended that Da Nang boost linkages and cooperation with other localities in the key economic zone in Central Viet Nam, especially with the neighbouring provinces of Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam.
In particular, it is necessary to create a driving force for the city’s development through attracting investment flows for multi-centre planning.
Especially, for the ‘compact city’ model, which is an urban planning and design concept, which promotes relatively high residential density with mixed land uses, it must be associated with traffic planning, including public transport. In addition, it is necessary to orient the development of underground projects.
Also, the master plan should focus on clarifying the city’s capacity of responding to climate change, sea level rise, and saltwater intrusion.

It is known that the draft master plan will have been completed by April 2022 and then submitted to the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment for appraisal, and then submitted to the Prime Minister on June 30, 2022 for approval.
Previously, Standing Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Ho Ky Minh and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Thien, the former Director of the Viet Nam Institute of Economics had co-chaired a workshop on the current situation and orientations of the city’s socio-economic development, allocating space for the development socio-economic aspects. This is one of the components of the draft master plan.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Thien highly hailed the draft master plan for boasting a modern perspective on the city’s development orientations and its strong aspirations for bigger strides in the future.
However, in terms of content, the draft master plan should mention more issues about the city's strengths and advantages, growth potential conditions and the industry structure.
