Solutions about economic recovery and sustainable development discussed at Viet Nam Economic Forum 2021

The Viet Nam Economic Forum 2021 themed ‘Recovery and Sustainable Development’ took place on Sunday, December 5, at the International Convention Centre in both online and in-person formats, connecting 57 bridge points across the country, and 3 international bridge points in the US, France and Thailand.

The virtual event was jointly organized by the National Assembly (NA)’s Committee for Economic Affairs, the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission and the Viet Nam Academy of Social Sciences.

Attendance at the forum in Da Nang were municipal People's Council Vice Chairman Le Minh Trung, People's Committee Vice Chairwoman Ngo Thi Kim Yen, Deputy Head of the Delegation of NA Deputies Tran Chi Cuong, and some leaders of local government departments and agencies.

In his opening speech delivered at the forum, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said that this year’s forum was on a larger scale than previous years'. Aside from macroeconomic matters, it touched upon social and environmental issues. Also, Viet Nam’s economic development during the 2020-2021 period, and its policies adopted to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, were reviewed.

Specifically, the event gave insight into the trend of economic restructuring and changes in production and business models due to the impact of the pandemic, along with policies that have been rolled out in the world to tackle COVID-19, thus withdrawing lessons for Viet Nam in this regard.

During the event, participating delegates discussed the world situation, and the world's epidemic trends, which are expected to have impacts on Viet Nam’s macro-economy and growth drivers. Also, they proposed solutions, with a focus on both short and long-term economic policies.

The one-day forum had two working sessions. In the plenary session in the morning, there was a high-level discussion with the theme ‘Some suggestions for Viet Nam’s socio-economic recovery and development’. Meanwhile, the discussion session in the afternoon featured 2 topics: ‘The flexible and effective coordination of monetary and fiscal policies, thereby creating resources for macroeconomic stability and economic recovery’ and ‘Ensuring social welfare and labour supply in the process of economic recovery’.
