Da Nang gears up upgrading of many markets, building of new ones
For the rest of this year the Da Nang authorities will gear up the upgrading of many markets and building of new ones citywide in a bid to give a facelift to the city’s commerce industry.

As reported by the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade, currently, there are 74 markets of all kinds, of which there are 5 first-class markets, namely the Con, Han and Dong Da markets, the Hoa Cuong Wholesale and the Tho Quang seafood wholesale market.
The district/ ward/commune administrations now manage 67 markets whilst enterprises opeates two, namely seven in Hai Chau, 11 in Thanh Khe, five in Ngu Hanh Son, six in Cam Le, ten in Lien Chieu, nine in Son Tra and 19 in Hoa Vang.
The total area of market space is about 248,310m2, in which 134,087m2 is earmarked for the trading area (accounting for 54%) with a total of about 12,237 stall holders.
According to a recent survey conducted by the municipal Department of Industry and Trade, the network of markets distributed in wards/communes is quite uniform, with 55 markets in urban areas (accounting for 74%) and 19 markets in rural areas (making up for 25%).
Particularly, the Hai Chau District-based Hoa Cuong Wholesale Market, after a long time of operation, has been overloaded whilst the supply of goods has not been diversified as the sources of fruit and vegetables still account for the largest proportion. In fact, the market has yet to match its stature as a transit point for goods for the whole Central - Central Highlands regions of Viet Nam.
As for the upgrading of large downtown markets, the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade is implementing procedures to select the contractors to upgrade the Con market through the national bidding network system in the direction of making this market more civilised and modern.
Likewise, the facelift will be given to the Han Market with a bid to preserve its image as a traditional shopping site in tandem with creating a tourism highlight a total estimated cost of VND9.68 billion.

As for the building of the Hoa Phuoc wholesale market, the Proton One Member Limited Liability Company has submitted a proposal to the municipal government to on the planning and development of logistics and support services for this would-be market, thereby promoting the Da Nang wholesale industry.
Meanwhile, the district –level authorities have accelerated the upgrading of the existing markets and building new ones.
Specifically, Thanh Khe District will build the new Thuan An Market at a cost of VND15.5 billion, upgrade the markets of Phu Loc and Chinh Gian with a total cost of more than VND7.7 billion and prepare for the construction of the Quan Ho Market.
In a similar vein, Son Tra District will upgrade a number of items such as lighting and sanitation facilities at the markets of An Hai Bac, An Hai Dong, Ha Than, Mai, Tho Quang, Phuoc My and Nai Hien Dong with a total cost of more than VND4.2 billion.
Over VND1.2 billion will be spent on upgrading the Nguyen Tri Phuong and Moi markets based in Hai Chau District.
A total of VND7.3 billion will be used to construct the Hoa Phu and Hoa Hiep Bac markets and renovate the Thanh Vinh, Hoa My, and Hoa Khanh markets.
