On Thursday, gold, silver and gem shops in Da Nang were packed with customers who bought pieces of gold on the God of Wealth Day, the tenth day of the first lunar year, with the aim to seek good fortune for their business and family through the year.

However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, these shops were not as busy as in previous years.

At 8:30 am on Thursday, the buying price of SJC gold was at VND61.70 million per tael, whilst the selling price at VND62.72 million per tael, slightly up compared to the past 2 days.

As observed, such popular gold products as pieces of gold decorated with the God of Wealth or a tiger, the zodiac animal of the 2022 lunar year, were among the best-sellers.

In a similar vein, the bustling trading ambience was seen at some small-scale gold shops on such downtown streets as Ong Ich Khiem and Hung Vuong.

At the K.H gold shop on Ton Quang Phiet Street in Son Tra District, the number of gold buying or selling transactions this day is higher than normal days.

Gold products stamped with the God of Wealth were viewed and bought by many people and they are being sold at only VND6.4 million.

Meanwhile, light-weight gold bars of one mace were reportedly sold well on this day at the SJC gold shop on Hung Vuong Street and Doji gold shop on Le Duan Street.

Buying a gold bar at the Doji gold shop on Le Duan Street, an unidentified woman said she spent all her save money to buy one tael of gold at the price of VND62.7 million to pray for luck and prosperity throughout the year. "Last year was difficult due to COVID-19 so I wanted to get some luck for this year" said she.

Mr. Lam Quang Thi, Director of the Central Viet Nam Branch of the Saigon Jewelry Company Limited (SJC), expressed his excitement at seeing the high number of gold buyers from January 8 - 10 for luck and prosperity.

He added gold products of one to two maces were among the best-sellers, which showed people's confidence in economic recovery after two difficult years because of COVID-19.
