Securing land fund for resettlement whilst planning restoration of the Marble Mountains site

On April 16, 2020, the Prime Minister approved a project to preserve and restore the Marble Mountains Tourist Area which was recognised as a special national-level relic site in 2019. The basically completed planning dossier will be submitted to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for appraisal and then to the Prime Minister for approval. Accordingly, the planning of the project has solved land fund-related affairs for resettlement after site clearance as required.

Director of the Department of Culture and Sports Pham Tan Xu said that the scope of this planning project ensures the vision to create consistency in construction planning management, cultural heritage management and the highest concentration of all social resources for the conservation and promotion of the heritage values.

Meanwhile, the Marble Mountain Tourist Area restoration project also ensure the principle of balance between urban conservation and development.

In addition to the content of the planning scope, the project also approaches the need for infrastructure development and the refurbishment of landscape space along the sides of the Co Co River, a master plan on the whole connection inside the Marble Mountains site and traffic arrangement plans as well.

In particular, the spatial planning structure diagram of the Marble Mountains beauty spot will include the space of the 5 mounts, monuments, religious and architectural works, residential spaces in the traditional stone carving village, neighborhoods, along with the current traffic system and technical infrastructure.

Also noticeably, the parking area at the site can accommodate 375 buses and 887 cars, equivalent to a capacity of welcoming 15,310 visitors participating in festivals and events here at the same time.

In addition, there will be an area for picking up and dropping off passengers for internal traffic with an area of 0.26ha, thus meeting the arrangement of 107 electric vehicles.

The planning project identifies a residential area selling fine art stone products along Huyen Tran Cong Chua and Non Nuoc streets, keeps an area of 37,970m2 unchanged with about 190 households and partially clearing off about 8,150m2 with about 50 households to create a landscape axis connecting Thuy Son mount with Moc Son Mount.

With regard to the ecological conservation area in the residential area of agricultural production, the consulting unit has proposed to keep 5 old houses intact and clear off 54,233m2 in the area and proceed the clearance of 192,873m2 with 657 households in other areas. 

The issue of resettlement layout plan of deep concern, showing the hinge nature to promote efficiency after the project is approved and implemented.

According to the project planning consulting unit, the People's Committee of Ngu Hanh Son District is in great support for the compensation and resettlement plans.

It is expected that 150 residence land lots on Le Van Hien Street, 25 ones on Tran Hung Dao  extended route, 80 ones on 10.5m wide streets, 374 ones on 7.5m –wide streets and 605 ones on 5.5m-wide streets will be earmarked for families displaced by the project.
