The Da Nang Department of Transport and the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) have jointly organised a webinar on the development of public bicycle services in urban areas in a bid to encourage an alternative, greener method of transportation in this hub of tourism.

The event was part of ‘The Smart City supported by Japan ASEAN Mutual Partnership (Smart JAMP)’ in Da Nang sponsored b by MLIT to help prepare for the implementation of smart fields for this city.
The project features such components as the development of a digital map for smart city planning and management, and the building of a smart urban model for the high-tech park and  the pilot model of public bicycle rental service in the city centre.

At the event, MLIT and Da Nang discussed ways to promote special links and cooperation in developing technologies and platforms for the public bicycle service in Da Nang in the coming time.

The Da Nang Department of Transport is carrying out communications activities, select a number of streets in urban and coastal areas to pilot the bicycle sharing service, and over the plan under which only bicycles are allowed to travel on some downtown streets.

Currently, the Tri Nam Digital Transport Service Joint Stock Company, a subsidiary of Tri Nam Group, has registered to pilot a public bicycle sharing service in Da Nang.

To use the piblic bike service, people need to download the TNGO app, register for an account using their mobile phone number and add money to the account via MoMo, Zalo Pay, or VTC Pay. They then need to scan a QR code attached to the bicycle to unlock it for use.

The app, in addition to helping users find the nearest bike rental spot, also keeps track of data such as kilometres travelled, calories burned, and the amount of carbon emissions a user has cut down by not using other vehicles.
