Da Nang people support farmers in neighbouring province affected by unusually heavy rains to consume watermelons
In the past few days, many individuals and organisations across Da Nang have joined efforts to help farmers in neighbouring Quang Nam Province affected by floods following unusually heavy rains in a bid to consume their unsold watermelons.

Departing from Binh Dinh Province at 10:00 pm. on April 3 and arriving in Da Nang at 5:00 am on the following morning, members of the province’s Sen Viet Charity Club bought 6 tonnes of watermelons at a selling area set up on Hoa An 4 Street in Hoa An Ward, Cam Le District.
While rushing to help people load watermelons into a truck, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Duy, a member of the Sen Viet Charity Club said: "Our hometown in Central Viet Nam is also affected by the unseasonal downpours. Understanding the difficulties Quang Nam farmers facing, we have bought watermelons as a way to support them overcome their current difficulties”.
The watermelon purchase by Sen Viet Club’s members received an active support from the ‘Mau Nong-Tim Yeu Thuong’ (Warm Blood - Loving Heart) Club under the Hoa An Ward chapter of the Da Nang Red Cross Society, and monk Thich Van Luc who is an abbot of the Duong Son Pagoda in Phuoc Son Commune, Tuy Phuoc District, Binh Dinh Province cum Head of the Sen Viet Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients.
Head of the ‘Mau Nong-Tim Yeu Thuong’ Club Nguyen Ngoc Binh said his club has, till date, given a helping hand to farmers in Dai Hong, Dai Quang and Dai Lanh communes in Dai Loc District, Quang Nam Province, to consume a total of 52 tonnes of watermelons. These are localities where watermelon growing areas are flooded due to unseasonal natural disasters. Round watermelons are on sale at the price of VND2,000/kg, and long watermelons at VND3,000/kg.
Accordingly, the club has found sources of watermelon consumption for Quang Nam farmers and then provided free transportation for them.
Mr. Binh expressed his happiness that the watermelons were sold out quickly in 1-2 days.

Meanwhile, since April 3, the Youth Union organisation of Lien Chieu District’s Public Security Department has cooperated with the Youth Union organisations of Hoa Khanh Nam and Hoa Minh wards, and the city's Support Centre for Inclusive Education Development to purchase two tonnes of watermelons to help Quang Nam farmers. These watermelons have been then distribute freely to needy people in Lien Chieu District and patients at the Da Nang Mental Hospital.
Lieutenant Ngo Thanh Dat, Secretary of the Youth Union organisation of the Lien Chieu District Public Security Department said that through this activity, police in the district wanted to contribute to spreading humanity values and the images of brave and humane police soldiers who are willing to serve people.
Additionally, the chapter No 25 of the Women's Union in Hoa Thuan Tay Ward, Hai Chau District, has helped farmers in Dai Lanh Commune to consume five tonnes of watermelons.
Holding a juicy watermelon in her hand, Mrs. Le Nguyen Thanh Thuy, a resident of Hoa Khanh Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District, said she was very happy at helping Quang Nam farmers at this time by buying their watermelons in order to help them go through their current difficulties.
