After 5 years of implementing an agreement on boosting bilateral win-win multi-faceted coopetition, Da Nang and its neighbour Quang Nam have seen outstanding achievements, looking forwards new development strides in the coming time.

Promoting potentials and advantages

Prominently, Quang Nam and Da Nang have strengthened the bilateral cooperative ties on supply and demand connection to develop supporting industry products in the form of joint ventures and associations to meet domestic demand and replace imports or orient for export, and at the same time implementing regional-scale supporting industry development projects.

In order to deploy supporting industry products, the two localities, in collaboration with the Da Nang Mechanical Association, have organised a delegation of supporting industry enterprises in the field of mechanical engineering in the city to exchange experiences, looking for opportunities to associate and cooperate with Truong Hai Automobile Joint Stock Company.

Simultaneously, the two localities have coordinated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to organise conferences on supporting industries with the participation of hundreds of domestic and foreign enterprises, thereby creating conditions for promoting linkages between supporting industry enterprises and large manufacturing and assembly enterprises, multinational corporations, and foreign investors so as to penetrate the global supply chain.

In addition, the two localities have jointly developed safe agro-forestry-aquatic food supply chains from production in Quang Nam Province to stores selling products in Da Nang. According to the Quang Nam Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province has built eight safe product chains and issued certifications for three product chains, of which two have been connected to consumption in Da Nang.

The province always focuses on supporting the application of modern technology in production, and advanced quality management programmes, intelligent traceability system to improve product quality in a bid to serve the needs of consumers in the two locations.

Effectively exploiting water resources of Vu Gia - Thu Bon river

Mr. Phan Van Binh, Chief of the Office of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee, said that in order to ensure the supply of water for daily life and agricultural production, over the past time, Quang Nam and Da Nang have coordinated to inspect and supervise the operation of hydropower plants on the upstream of Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin.

In particular, the Da Nang Water Supply Joint Stock Company has been allowed to build a temporary dam at Quang Hue River, thereby promoting efficiency in transferring water to Vu Gia River, ensuring safe water supply for Da Nang.

“Da Nang and Quang Nam have well promoted the role of the Coordination Committee on the Integrated watershed and coastal management in Vu Gia – Thu Bon River Basin and Quang Nam - Da Nang coastal areas in the management and exploitation of water resources. The rivers flow through the two localities, ensuring to serve agricultural production and daily use demand", Mr. Binh emphasised.

Elevating cooperation, promoting regional links

Standing Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Ho Ky Minh suggested that the two localities closely coordinate to attract foreign investment in night-time economic development. The two localities boast many advantages, so it is necessary to fully tap the potential, focusing on promoting the image, renewing tourism products, and developing the tourism industry.

Deputy Director in charge of Da Nang Department of Transport Bui Hong Trung said that, in order to better implement management activities, invest in developing management fields of the transport industry, the two localities have boost cooperation on many important contents, notably the planning and investment of the transport system.

Most recently, the municipal People’s Council has approved to spend VND1,203 billion on building a coastal road connecting the soon-to-be-constructed Lien Chieu Port with National Highway 1A, and VND 274 billion on constructing the Quang Da Bridge and approach roads to a bridge spanning the Yen River.

Da Nang would like Quang Nam to support the planning connection between the Northern Ring Road project in province and the Quang Da Bridge project and its approach roads, prepare procedures related to compensation, clearance, resettlement arrangement to ensure timely and convenient handover of land for the project implementation.

In the coming time, the two localities should soon propose a number of smooth mechanisms and policies, implement key works and projects such as the National Highway 14B expansion, the project of dredging the Co Co River and the Da Nang University urban area.

“We need to affirm the role of the two localities in regional linkage because these are the two localities that can best perform the role of regional linkage, connecting the East-West Economic Corridor in accordance with the development goals set by the national government", Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang emphasised.
