Da Nang - A potential destination in Asia
In his opening speech delivered at the "Da Nang - Asia's potential destination" forum hosted by the Da Nang People’s Committee on Sunday, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Tran Phuoc Son highlighted the special significance of the forum as the city was making efforts to implement solutions with the aim to drive its socio-economic recovery and development after a 2-year hiatus triggered by COVID-19.
At the event, Vice Chairman Son introduced 80 domestic and international attendees who were representatives of airlines, international travel agencies and tourism associations to some of Da Nang’s advantages.
Accordingly, Da Nang is one of the 5 centrally-governed cities in Viet Nam. It is a hub for tourism, commerce and international transactions in the key economic zone in Central Viet Nam and the whole country.
Da Nang has been ranked in the developed group of Viet Nam in terms of the size and level of the economy. The city's economy has grown relatively quickly. The average growth rate of the locality’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) during the 2016-2019 period (before COVID-19) was 7.71%/year.
In the first five months of 2022, Da Nang's socio-economic activities saw positive moves. Tourism showed signs of recovery after a long period of closure to control the pandemic. Up to now, Da Nang has connected with 6 airlines to reopen 4 direct air routes to the city.
In addition, the city has hosted many fascinating activities such as tourism stimulus programme, the Asia Route Development Forum 2022, the 'Wonderful Da Nang' Festival, national beauty contests, the Asian golf tournament , and the Da Nang Golf Week.
Currently, Da Nang is focusing on developing three main pillars, namely tourism, high-tech industry and marine economy, and five spearhead fields. In the near future, the city will submit its project "Building Da Nang into a regional financial centre" to the Central Government for consideration.
Mr. Son also informed the participants that the Central Government has given a nod to establish the National Innovation Startup Centre in Da Nang.
Moreover, the city has received permission from the Central Government to form a non-tariff zone, develop the University of Da Nang into the national university, and upgrade passenger terminal T1 at the Da Nang International Airport.
As part of the ongoing Routes Asia 2022, the ‘Da Nang - Asia's potential destination’ forum aimed to promote the city’s potential, advantages and investment opportunities in the fields of aviation, space and logistics, as well as introduced the infrastructure capacity of Da Nang International Airport from 2021 to 2030, to delegates at both home and abroad.
During the forum, the speakers introduced the attendees to the potential of Da Nang’s tourism industry, its logistics centre planning, infrastructure capacity of Da Nang International Airport from 2021 to 2030, and projects calling for investment into Da Nang Hi-Tech Park in the field of aviation and space such as aircraft maintenance and repair centre and a pilot and aviation mechanical engineering training school.
