The Viet Nam Expressway Corporation (VEC) recently informed that it started not to control the balance of drivers' ETC accounts for using the electronic toll collection (ETC) system at the entrances to four VEC-managed expressways from August 6.

According to VEC, from August 1, 2022, VEC put the ETC system into use on 4 expressways namely Cau Gie - Ninh Binh, Noi Bai - Lao Cai, Da Nang - Quang Ngai, and Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay.

After a week of putting the ETC system into exploitation, there are still a high number of vehicles without ETC cards or insufficient balance on account, putting a lot of pressure on the toll station's staff and causing traffic congestion at non-stop toll collection stations.

To handle the situation, the VEC issued an official letter to require vehicle owners and drivers to maintain minimum balance in their ETC accounts in order to access expressways managed and operated by VEC.

However, the requirement of VEC has made many vehicle owners and drivers frustrated because they only travel short distances but must have enough balance for the whole route. Therefore, VEC officially announced that it does not control the balance of road users' toll accounts anymore.
