Da Nang on way to pilot Bach Dang Pedestrian Street project
Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairman Tran Phuoc Son has urged relevant agencies to continue to make detailed implementation plans for piloting Bach Dang Pedestrian Street and allocate an appropriate capital for this project.
The much-awaited pedestrian street project is expected to be located on the extended Bach Dang Street, exactly the section from the western end of the Rong (Dragon) Bridge to Tran Thi Ly Street, connecting with Nguyen Van Troi pedestrian bridge. A number of activities will be piloted along this pedestrian street such as leisure walking, night view of the Han River, check-in experience, entertainment activities, art performances and high quality tourism services that target both city dwellers and tourists.
Under the draft plan made by the Department of Tourism, the pilot project will be implemented in 3 years with 2 phases.
Phase 1 will see such work items as embellishing sidewalks, decorating, installing artistic lighting, sound systems along the walking route, arranging check-in points and organizing performing arts stages…
Phase 2 will add activities, high-class food and beverage services, display stalls, mobile carts along the pedestrian street.
Representatives from relevant agencies presented recommendations and ideas on the aforementioned draft plan. It was highly recommended to develop a methodical and overall traffic organisation plans, set up more parking spaces in the APEC Statue Garden Park, as well as create more decorative landscapes, check-in points, outdoor performing stages, high-end refreshments and exhibition booths.
In particular, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports Nguyen Thi Hoi An said that, In phase 1, it is necessary to strengthen many cultural and artistic activities highly inviting to both locals people and tourists.
There will Cham cultural performances in the area outside the Cham Sculpture Museum, combined with the Da Nang Youth Union-organised modern arts activities opposite the museum, hereby creating a unique and vibrant cultural and artistic space.
In addition, the organisation of ethnic art programs at the APEC Statue Park, a book street section with the aim of reading culture should be taken into consideration.
The piloting of a pedestrian street will create new tourism products and services, nightlife entertainment spots, and diversify types of services and facilities to attract tourists, thereby contributing to beefing up night-time economy in the city on the basis of available advantages of geographical location and landscape, increasing visitors’ stay and increasing their spending in the city.
Along with that, the new project is expected to exploit tourism services in neighbouring areas of Hai Chau and Son Tra districts according to Da Nang night-time economy development project.
