Busy preparing sources of raw materials and labour force

In these days, the Ba Lieu 'banh kho me' (dried sesame seed cakes) production facility located at 160 Ong Ich Duong, Cam Le District, is full of the flavour of flour, beans, and sesames. Dozens of workers are seen busy producing products for Tet.

Mrs. Kim Thoa, the owner of the Ba Lieu production facility, said that till date, her establishment has prepared a relatively sufficient source of raw materials for the production for this year's Tet.

In order to meet the market demand, the establishment is offering 3 types of cakes: dried cakes with black and white sesame seeds, and explosive sesame seeds. These products are packaged in plastic bags as traditional way, and in vacuum-sealed bags to present to relatives and friends as gifts.

“This year, there is a 10-20% increase in the prices of many input materials over the same period last year due to fluctuations in the prices of transportation, labour and packaging costs. Meanwhile, the market for manufactured products are facing more difficulties than in previous years. It is expected that the facility will only guarantee the same production level compared to last year. In the immediate future, we still quote the old price to the agents” said Mrs. Thoa.

As recorded at the production facilities of cakes, sweets, jams, pickled scallion heads and fish sauce around the city, all production establishments are busy preparing sources of raw materials and labour force, connecting the old agents, to expanding consumption markets.

A representative of the Dai Cuong Production - Trading Co., Ltd located in Hoa Phu Commune, Hoa Vang District, said that the unit's main products are rice paper, dried vermicelli, and dried Quang noodles.

So far this year, the company has fully prepared raw materials and increased the number of employees to start producing goods for the year-end shopping season and the Tet Festival.

Since early September, the company has ordered nearly 100 tonnes of rice to avoid the impact of rising commodity prices at year-end. It is expected that its output will increase by 50% for this year's Tet season.

Production according to market demand

Besides cakes, sweets and soft drinks, fish sauce is also a product with great consumption during the traditional Tet holiday.

Over the past few years, Nam O fish sauce has been popular in the market, so fish sauce markers are very busy all year round.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung, Director of the Binh Minh Fish Sauce Cooperative, said that the sales volume during the forthcoming Tet holiday is expected to increase 10 times over normal days.

Up to now, 10,000 litres of traditional fish sauce are now ready to serve customers during Tet holiday. A litre of fish sauce is now on sale at around VND130,000. The cooperative has prepared packages of two bottles of fish sauces to serve the gifting needs of customers.

Before the fluctuations of the market, and hike in costs of labour, transportation and raw materials, many enterprises and production facilities decide to produce according to the actual needs of customers.

Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Phi Sinh, the owner of the Thao Sinh ‘cha’ (meat paste roll cakes) establishment based in Hoa Khe Ward, Thanh Khe District, said that his unit has prepared for such dried products as chilli sauce, spicy chicken floss, and 'bo kho' (chipped beef).

It is expected that this year, the facility will increase production by 30% compared to normal days. Despite a hike in the prices of some ingredients, packaging and spices, the establishment still tries to keep the prices stable.
