However, according to small traders there, this year’s purchasing power decreased significantly whilst the output was low.

Taking a walk around the fishing port in the early mornings on these days leading up to the Lunar New Year 2023, all kinds of fish and shrimps have been on sale, many of which have high economic value and are popular with many people during Tet such as tuna, mackerel, pompano, halibut, shrimp, and squid.

Through the survey, the price of tuna ranges from VND60,000-VND80,000/kg, largehead hairtail VND200,000/kg, mackerel VND240,000, cow skin fish VND80,000/kg, black tiger shrimp VND260,000-VND500,000/kg depending on the size, whiteleg shrimp VND130,000-VND220,000/kg, and squid VND360,000/kg.

According to small traders, the price of seafood at the market over the past 2 days has decreased slightly compared to the middle of the month.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoa, a small trader at the Tho Quang Fishing Port, said that around Tet, fish sales increased more than usual, but decreased by about 20% compared to previous years due to unfavourable weather conditions.

Mrs. Le Thi Dieu, the owner of the Sau Dien fishery stall, remarked over the past days, the fish market has been quite empty. The cost of each offshore fishing trip is not profitable, so fishing boats limit fishing, leading to a decrease in output.
