Ensuring adequate supply of agricultural products after Tet

According to Director of the La Huong Safe Vegetable Production Cooperative Tran Van Hoang, before Tet, adverse weather negative affected some vegetables and crops of farmers in the cooperative. However, the price of vegetables before Tet doubled that on normal days, so farmers did not suffer financial loss too much.

At present, all farmers citywide return to production activities. To ensure the adequate supply of vegetables in the city, the cooperative recommends that farmers in the area focus on planting short-term vegetables, tubers and fruits to promptly serve the needs of local residents.

In recent days, bustling working atmosphere has been recorded at the La Huong Safe Vegetable Production Area in Hoa Tho Dong Ward, Cam Le District. Taking advantage of favourable weather conditions, many farmers in the locality have gone to the fields early in the morning.

Owning nearly 1,000m2 of cultivated land, Mr. Doan Van The residing in Hoa Tho Dong Ward said that this is the second year that his family has produced in the vegetable area. In the last vegetable crop, short-term vegetables and tubers were at good prices, helping him have more income to support his family during Tet.

In order to serve the needs of the post-Tet market, Mr. The is now growing short-term vegetables such as mustard greens, lettuce, spinach, pumpkin and melon.

Not far away, farmer Phan Ngoc Phu is busy plowing the soil to prepare new vegetable beds.

During the Tet vegetable crop, due to adverse weather, long-term vegetable varieties, especially broccoli, of his family and many other farmers, were damaged and had to be replanted.

“In about 15 days, my 300 delayed broccoli plants will be harvested. Currently, my family is growing broccoli, melon, squash, water spinach, sweet potato buds and cilantro. We wish for a new year of favourable weather conditions and bumper crops in the new year” Mr. Phu added.

Improving agriculture production

Taking advantage of favourable weather on the first day of the lunar new year, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Lan, a farmer in Hoa Nhon Commune, Hoa Vang District, is seen fertilising her family's about 700m2 rice paddy field. It is known that this is the second time of fertilising since the beginning of the season so that the rice plants can grow according to the correct time frame.

Meanwhile, peanut farmer Nguyen Tan Canh in Tay An Village, Hoa Chau Commune, Hoa Vang District, remarked he and other peanut farmers have started to weed and fertilise since the 4th day of the first lunar month with the expectation of a new year of good season.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Tuong, Vice Chairman of Hoa Nhon Commune People's Committee said that the commune has more than 2,415ha of agricultural land. In which, the land used for growing essential foods such as rice, peanuts and vegetables requires regular and careful care from farmers.

After Tet, the weather is quite favourable for planting and taking care of agricultural crops, so the locality has actively guided and urged farmers to focus on agriculture production.

Hoa Vang District People's Committee Vice Chairman Phan Duy Anh remarked that farmers across the district focused on production again after Tet. As for the 2022-2023 winter-spring rice crop, the development situation remains stable. Farmers still go to the fields to check and take care of them regularly, even during Tet. In this crop, the seed structure is mainly medium and short-term varieties with high yield and good quality, adapted to the ecological conditions of Da Nang.
