The upgraded Peace Monument and the expanded March 29 Square at the first phase, and the Tuyen Son - Tuy Loan riverside route, was officially inaugurated on Friday morning in Da Nang to mark the 48^th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30).

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the 1^st phase of the upgraded Peace Monument and the expanded March 29 Square, Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh highlighted the main significance and the important social and political values of the project.

Built in 1994, the Peace Monument shows the national tradition of “when drinking water, remember its source” and pays tribute to heroes and martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation's re-unification, especially for the Quang Nam - Da Nang traditional land. Along with the statue of Mother Nhu, the monument is a symbol of the city in the 90s of the last century.

From that time until now, Da Nang has had miraculous changes. To match those changes, the city has decided to upgrade and embellish the Peace Monument, and renovate and expand the March 29 Square, aiming to create a cultural, historical, public space.

After more than one year of implementation, the first phase of the project has been already completed. Notably, the bas-relief "The history of Quang Land" has been enlarged but kept original in content.

Chairman Chinh took the opportunity to ask relevant agencies to well prepare for the second phase of the project. Once completed, the project will be a large square of the city and a place to host important political, economic, cultural and social events, as well as a stopover for tourists to enjoy understand more and love this traditional and beautiful land, Mr Chinh emphasised.

After the inauguration ceremony, a group of leaders of local government departments and agencies, and former city leaders offered incense to commemorate heroic martyrs at the Peace Monument.

In his remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the Tuyen Son - Tuy Loan riverside route, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Ho Ky Minh expressed his pleasure that the city in general, and Cam Le District and Hoa Vang District in particular had one more important project.

Vice Chairman Minh highlighted the importance of the route in creating a tourist traffic belt surrounding the city along with the Lien Chieu - Thuan Phuoc axis, the roads along both sides of the Han River and the coastal tourist axis.

Also, the route will contribute to expanding the boundary of the city centre, creating cityscapes and landscapes along the river, and improving the spiritual and cultural life of locals.

As one of the city’s key traffic projects, the Tuyen Son - Tuy Loan Loan riverside route project was kick-started in 2017 with a total investment of more than VND745.5 billion from the city budget. It was completed after more than 5 years of construction.

The about 7km-long route passes through Hoa Tho Tay and Hoa Tho Dong wards in Cam Le District, and Hoa Chau and Hoa Nhon communes in Hoa Vang District.

The route will help reduce the traffic overload on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street and the National Highway 14B, and connect the city centre with Hoa Vang District, thereby creating a new impetus to promote the city’s socio-economic development.
