This requires continuous improvement in the quality of training in the information technology industry, preferential policies for technology companies, and investment in research and innovation.

According to Mr. Dang Ngoc Hai, General Secretary of the Da Nang Software Business Association cum Director of the city branch of the Axon Active Vietnam Co., Ltd, Da Nang is known as a liveable city thanks to its wonderful natural landscape with a harmonious combination of rivers, mountains and sea; its modern transport infrastructure; and the friendliness and hospitality of locals.

These factors have not changed after a long time affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and will be an important lever to help Da Nang recover strongly and attract more tourists and investors to visit, work and live here.

Despite the aforementioned advantages, Da Nang faces many challenges in attracting investment in certain industries. For instance, there are still many limitations in logistics infrastructure such as warehouses and yards, affecting the manufacturing and e-commerce industries.

In addition, the city is facing a shortage of qualified workforce in the hi-tech industry, hindering the growth of many tech companies based in the city.

Although the tourism industry has many advantages in terms of geographical location, the city needs more hotels and restaurants of higher quality to attract and retain tourists.

Besides, the shortage of skilled and well-trained labour force in the hospitality industry is also a major barrier affecting service quality and visitor experience.

Mr. Hai remarked the IT industry in Da Nang has grown rapidly in recent years, with the appearance of many startups and large technology companies. With a young population and good education background, favourable geographical location as well as active support from the municipal government, the city has great potential to become a new IT hub in Viet Nam.

He highlighted the necessity for Da Nang to invest more in infrastructure and human resources, as well as develop specialised fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and software development in a bid to attract more large technology companies.

“One of the other important factors to attract experts and investors to the city is the enhancement of the quality of life here, including improving public transport systems and healthcare infrastructure, and renovating green spaces. This will help the city continue to maintain its livable city brand and attract more talented people to work and live here” he added.

Mr. Truong Hoang Nguyen, CEO of the Universal Alloy Corporation (UAC) Viet Nam Co., Ltd based in the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park in Hoa Vang District, said from the beginning of the project survey to the current operation stage, his company has received very active support from the leaders of the city and relevant agencies.

“The first phase of the UAC project has been completed and is implementing production activities according to the committed quality and schedule. We have completed the processing line, delivered quality standard samples to customers, and moved to mass production” he said.

Mr. Nguyen also explained the reason for choosing Da Nang as his company’s stop was that Da Nang has increasingly become an attractive destination for both domestic and international investors thanks to its strict standards on labour safety and environmental protection, and the active support from the Management Board of the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park and Industrial Parks.

“Creating a hugely favorable investment environment and helping us get our investment back are the premises for the Montana Tech Components AG to conduct research and implement the second phase of the project” Mr. Nguyen remarked.

He added that educational institutions at all levels of Da Nang are very good, in which the University of Science and Technology, the Vocational Training College and the College of Transport are partners of UAC. They are boosting cooperation to train and provide high quality human resources for UAC Viet Nam and other factories based in the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park.

For his opinion, Da Nang is one of the best cities in the world to live in as it boasts great advantages for a family to grow well and live safely. Also, transport and logistics services from Da Nang to the world allow businesses to easily reach global partners.

Mr. Nguyen underlined a must do for the city to continue boosting administrative reform and supporting investment procedures. Importance should be attached to expanding information exchange channels between enterprises and State management agencies so as to promptly remove difficulties and obstacles, thereby helping the city maintain its brand of a worth-visiting and worth-visiting place.
