EC delegation to inspect Da Nang's IUU fishing combat next week
An inspection team from the European Commission (EC) will visit Da Nang next week to assess the city’s efforts in implementing the recommendations on fighting illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
During their stay in the city from May 23 - 29, the delegation is scheduled to work with localities to learn about the control of fishing vessels violating foreign waters, fishing vessels in and out of ports, fishing vessels operating at sea, and IUU fishing activities at fishing ports; as well as inspect the installation of vessel monitoring system (VMS) on fishing vessels.
Heed will be on checking the implementation of regulations on management, exploitation and fishing of ships, and the certification of the origin of caught seafood for shipments exported to Europe.
In addition, the EC’s inspection team will work with 1-2 enterprises based in the city with shipments to Europe to check the records, certification process, and the certification of seafood raw materials exploited in Viet Nam's waters and imported raw materials.
The municipal government has proposed related agencies to continue implementing synchronously and seriously the Plan No. 61 dated March 14, 2023 on the prevention and control of IUU fishing in Da Nang in the 2023-2025 period.
Special attention will be paid to widely publicising and training regulations for fishermen, and raising awareness of timely detecting and handling violations of IUU fishing.
