Da Nang promotes 'cashless payment street' model
After more than half a year of the implementation of the ‘cashless payment street’ model, customers to many stores on Nguyen Huu Tho Street, Hoa Thuan Tay Ward, Hai Chau District, Da Nang are accustomed to scanning electronic payment codes instead of using cash. This habit has been cultivated under the ‘cashless payment street’ model jointly developed by the Hai Chau District administration and member organisations.

According to Ms. Dang Thi Lan Anh, the owner of a beverage store, as soon as the local authorities mobilised her to participate in the ‘cashless payment street’ model, she was excited to join it because she realised many advantages of this model even though she was not familiar with it at first.
“About 80% of the customers coming to the store scan the QR code to make payments. Many customers usually buy large amounts of goods but do not carry much cash. We have QR codes available to make payment very convenient and fast," Ms. Anh said.
According to Chairman of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee chapter of Hoa Thuan Tay Ward Nguyen Thi Kieu Linh, up to now, sidewalk shops, grocery stores, car repair shops and other small trading establishments along Nguyen Huu Tho Street all have QR codes available for customers to make payments. Paying in this way is more easily accepted and used by the younger generation than the elderly, but most of the local residents and tourists were actively involved in it.
In Nam Duong Ward, Huynh Thuc Khang breakfast food street has gone cashless, which witnessed excitement and support from many local dwellers and tourists. Travelling with his family and enjoying cuisine here, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hao, a tourist from the capital city of Ha Noi was very satisfied when it only took him more than 30 seconds to scan the payment QR code.
“When we travel, we rarely bring cash with us. All payments are scanned to ensure safety and accuracy. Here, stores applying online payment methods have helped me have more convenient shopping experience”, said Mr. Hao.
According to Mr. Than Dinh Nghia, Chairman of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee chapter of Nam Duong Ward, for effective implementation, his agency has effectively coordinated with SHB Da Nang and MB to help family-run businesses set up accounts and open QR codes.
Currently, this highly practical model is being implemented on Hoang Dieu Street where many business shops are located. “In the near future, there will be another snack venue located in an alley on Hoang Dieu Street. From very early on, the ward’s authorities have mobilised traders to use QR codes instead of using cash”. Mr. Nghia said.
Currently, in Hai Chau District, almost every ward has a ‘cashless payment’ street such as Nguyen Van Linh, Tran Van Tru, Le Dinh Duong, Phan Chau Trinh and Huynh Thuc Khang. According to Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Chau District Tran Thi Thuy Ha, to date, the entire district has launched 16 non-cash payment streets.
“The implementation of cashless streets creates favourable conditions for local residents and tourists to experience new, modern forms of payment, helping them quickly access applications and utilities in the digital age, contributing to building digital citizens and digital society.”, said Ms. Ha.
