Vice Chairman of Hai Chau District People's Committee Truong Thanh Dung said that the Da Nang People's Committee has directed the district to implement a plan to pilot Bach Dang walking street with a period starting from the end of April 2024 to the end of 2028.
The walking street operates from 3:00 p.m. till midnight everyday.
Under the plan, the much-awaited pedestrian street project is expected to be located on the extended Bach Dang Street, exactly the section from the approaching roads to the Tran Thi Ly Street to the end of the APEC Sculpture Park with a length of 1.2km, connecting with Nguyen Van Troi pedestrian bridge.
According to the current status, the extended Bach Dang road surface is 15m wide with 4 lanes. The innermost lane on the east side will be used to arrange 5 clusters of mobile sales vehicles (each cluster of 3 vehicles).
The remaining three lanes will be organised for one-way traffic, with a maximum speed limit of 40km/h per hour and motor vehicle restrictions per hour. Particularly for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, vehicles will be banned on the entire extended Bach Dang route (from its intersections with Binh Minh 10 Street to the APEC Park).
Along the sidewalk on Bach Dang Street, there will be 3 clusters of mobile sales kiosks (each cluster of 4 kiosks) alternating with clusters of vending carts. The kiosks will use 20-foot dry containers with a length of 6m and a width of 2.5m.
Self-powered kiosks and mobile sales vehicles are privately invested by the private sector, selling souvenirs, food, drinks, typical products, specialties, OCOP (One Commune - One Product) items. In particular, they are able to treat wastewater by themselves, instead of discharging wastewater into the city’s general drainage system.
In addition, there will be 5 check-in points, 2 public restrooms, a community space, stone benches on the sidewalk, landscape and recycling bins, free wifi stations, 4 security camera clusters, decorative lights and trees.
At the walking street, there are also 5 check-in points with unique models; community living space; free wifi stations; security camera clusters; decorative trees, stone benches, artistic lighting decorations. Along with that, a number of activities will be piloted along this pedestrian street such as leisure walking, entertainment activities, and art performances and high quality tourism services that target both city dwellers and tourists.
Bach Dang walking street also connects with the walking route across Nguyen Van Troi Bridge and Tran Hung Dao Street, as well as across the Dragon Bridge to become a continuous walking street cluster between Hai Chau and Son Tra districts.

In the western area of the extended Bach Dang Street, there will be many fun activities for children accompanied by adults to serve the needs of local residents and tourists to experience the Bach Dang walking street.
Mr. Pham Tuan Anh, a selling tourism service provider at My Khe Beach, said: “The Bach Dang walking street is attracting the attention of many households selling tourism products and services”.
It is estimated that the investment cost for each kiosk and vending cart is about VND200- VND300 million and the site fee must be paid monthly as well as the winnings from the auction.
In order to attract a large number of visitors to the Bach Dang walking street, it is not only necessary to connect tours and sightseeing routes for travel agencies but functional units need to organize events and activities to attracts many people and tourists to participate."
