Mr Vu Cong Thanh, residing in Hamlet 1, Hoa Ninh Commune, Hoa Vang District, Da Nang, desires to prosper on his family's land so he has been developing a frog farming model since 2019.

After successfully farming commercial frogs for many years, which provided a good income, Mr Thanh boldly ventured into breeding frogs for reproduction to actively control the source of offspring. He invested in various machinery and equipment for frog processing, packaging, and selling in the market.

Refusing to endure poverty and aspiring to escape it, Mr Thanh has visited and studied various business models multiple times. Through these explorations, he found the frog farming model most suitable for his family's conditions. Therefore, he bought books and acquired knowledge about commercial frog farming online, learning from successful farmers in other locations.

However, he encountered many difficulties and failures due to a lack of formal education. Issues such as designing frog pens, and caring for and preventing diseases in the frog herd were challenging.

Undeterred, Mr Thanh continued to learn about the local climate, water sources, and frog growth characteristics. With a spirit of eager learning and perseverance, his frog farming knowledge gradually improved, leading to success as seen today.

Mr Thanh confessed that due to his inexperience, he initially only released a few commercial frogs. After raising them for about three months and seeing profits, he reinvested to increase the number of frogs and researched breeding.

Breeding 400 pairs of parent frogs, he sells over 400,000 offspring on average annually, with each frog sold for between VND1,200 to VND1,500. Moreover, he uses his frog offspring to raise commercial frogs to control input and ensure breeding quality.

Commercial frog farming takes about a month, with frogs weighing 200-250g being sold directly to traders at home. Prices range from VND45,000 to VND50,000 per kilogram.

For the time being, Mr Thanh's frog farming area is about 1,000 square meters. On average, he sells from 12 - 15 tons per year. After deducting expenses, and labour costs, and setting aside funds for pond repairs and machinery, Mr Thanh earns profits ranging from VND150 - 200 million per year. This is an enviable income for many farmers in challenging areas like Hoa Ninh.

"Frog farming is not difficult, just pay attention to common diseases such as intestinal disease, and bloating. Prevent diseases promptly by regularly changing water, and avoiding excessively dirty water. The stocking density should be moderate. Frog food is very diverse, including marine fish, miscellaneous fish, or finely ground golden apple snails. Industrial feed can also be used for frogs. You just need to pay attention to the weather not being too cold, as it can cause frog eggs to be spoiled," Mr Thanh added.

Given the local climate conditions, to ensure quality and efficiency for both parent frogs and commercial frogs, Mr Thanh organizes frog farming from April - November each year. After succeeding with breeding and commercial frogs, he boldly invests in machinery for processing and packaging finished products.

He also cherishes the desire to build a brand for his products because, in his opinion, only with a brand can frog products dominate and expand the market, thereby providing greater value to farmers.

Encouraged and supported by the Hoa Ninh Farmers' Association, Mr Thanh has registered the "Hoa Ninh Clean Frog" trademark. His products are accepted by many supermarkets and clean food stores in the city, embraced by consumers.

As shared by Mr Nguyen Van Thanh, Chairman of the Hoa Ninh Farmers' Association, Mr Thanh is a hardworking farmer who loves learning. He has flexibly applied scientific knowledge obtained from training sessions held by farmers' associations to production and animal husbandry, contributing positively to economic restructuring and professional transformation. His economic model is considered one of the models that help farmers escape poverty, and rise to wealth, and should be replicated locally.

On top of that, Mr Thanh is also a pioneer, always active in implementing social activities in the locality, as well as mobilizing villagers to contribute to the construction of clean and beautiful village roads and lanes.
