Da Nang rolls out solutions to develop 'back to the roots' tourism

On the Da Nang map, cultural and historical destinations are spread out, diversely distributed from the centre to the suburbs. They are considered valuable venues for the development of tourism in general, and ‘Back to the Roots’ tourism in particular.

Da Nang rich in cultural and historical relics

Mr. Huynh Dinh Quoc Thien, Director of the Da Nang Museum, highlighted that ‘Back to the Roots’ tourism is a resource of cultural and historical value as the city is now home to numerous cultural institutions, works, landscapes.

Among them, the Da Nang Museum, the Military Region 5 Museum, the Hoang Sa Exhibition House, village communal houses, and works bearing ancient imprints can also be considered as ‘red addresses’ to educate young generations about the country’s revolutionary tradition, and attract tourists to the locality.

Recognised as a national-level relic site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2010, the K20 Revolutionary Base in Khue My Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District is a symbol of the indomitable and resilient revolutionary spirit of the people of Da Nang. The venue has gradually become a familiar destination for many tourist groups in recent years.

According to statistics released by the Management Board of the Marble Mountains Tourist Area - the management unit of K20, this ‘red address’ welcomed nearly 5,700 visitors in 2023 and more than 3,700 in the first 3 months of 2024.

Visitors to the site are mainly associations, unions, agencies and units in the city and other neighbouring localities. This relic is chosen by many travel agencies as a destination for tours associated with schools to take pupils on sightseeing, and extracurricular and thematic learning activities.

As a unit that often organizes ‘Back to the Roots’ tours in Da Nang and many other localities, the Non Nuoc Viet Tourism Service and Trading Company Limited builds a list of diverse source destinations for customers to choose from.

The company has 2 main groups of customers. One group includes associations, unions, and units inside and outside the city, whilst the other are school pupils and students.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Duy Vu, Director of the Non Nuoc Viet company, ‘back to the roots’ tourism activities and thematic activities are often annual plans of units, associations, and schools. Therefore, this type of tourism will have a stable source of visitors.

“The trend of ‘back to the roots’ tourism has shifted, not only stopping at destinations in the city but also expanding to other localities. Every group of tourists tends to need novelty and variety in tours, anywhere" Mr. Vu shared.

Experience connection and diversification to attract customers

Mr. Nguyen Huu Duy Vu stressed the need for management units, cultural and tourism agencies and tour operators to refresh images of destinations and diversify experience activities for tourists in a bid to attract more visitors and develop ‘back to the roots’ tourism.

Mr. Le Ngoc Nhat, Deputy Head of the Management Board of the Marble Mountains Tourist Area and Head of the K20 Revolutionary Base Area Management Group, said that the unit is promoting the integration and promotion of the image of this place at the Marble Mountains.

Additionally, the launch of the inland waterway tourist route connecting the Han River Port, the K20 Revolutionary Base Area, and the inland waterway wharf at the Avalokiteśvara Pagoda, will open up an opportunity to lure more tourists to the K20 relic in particular and the Marble Mountains in general.

He also expressed his hope that the project on developing tourism at the K20 Revolutionary Base will get approval from the city soon in an effort to bring new tourism products to serve tourists.

Sharing the same opinion, Mr. Huynh Dinh Quoc Thien suggested that depending on the target customers and their needs, the tourism industry and related units should coordinate and properly exploit local cultural and historical resources.

In particular, destinations can be linked into a tour around the city, starting from Hai Chau District through other localities and then come back in Hai Chau District to introduce visitors to the image of Da Nang rich in history. Mr. Thien noted.
