Promote attracting M.I.C.E. visitors to Da Nang

Following instructions from the Da Nang People's Committee, the municipal Department of Tourism will effectively implement promotion programmes to attract M.I.C.E (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) visitors to Da Nang.  This is the premise for the tourism industry to continue promoting solutions to attract this tourist market.

In 2023, the Da Nang Department of Tourism organised the reception of 163 M.I.C.E delegations with a combined total of 45,344 visitors

According to Deputy Director of the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centere Mai Thi Thanh Hai, in the first 3 months of 2024, the centre welcome 25 M.I.C.E delegations with a total of about 9,510 visitors, including 8,010 international visitors, mainly of whom came from such tourist source markets as India, Thailand, Russia, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan (China) and Singapore.

Based on the encouraging results of implementing the support programme to attract MICE tourists to Da Nang in 2023, at the same time creating a highlight to attract tourists, especially M.I.C.E tourists in the coming time, the city's tourism industry has developed a M.I.C.E tourist promotion programme in 2024.

It is expected that the programme will attract about the first 200 domestic M.I.C.E  domestic and international tourist groups with a total estimated number of 48,000 visitors, including 10,000 international ones. The size of M.I.C.E tourist groups that enjoy support policies ranges from 50-199 guests, 200-349 guests, 350-499 guests and from 500 guests or more.

To be eligible for support from Da Nang, M.I.C.E tourist groups shall meet conditions such as spending overnight at least 50 rooms; having a day of sightseeing and organize a M.I.C.E event in Da Nang. The event organiser has a business license issued by the authorities. In addition, for international M.I.C.E delegations, the organisation of international M.I.C.E events must be licensed according to Decision 06/2020/QD-TTG dated February 21, 2020 made by the Prime Minister on the organisation and management of international conferences and seminars in Viet Nam. In 2024, the promotion programme to attract MICE tourists applicable to both domestic and international M.I.C.E groups is expected to adjust some content on the scale and level of support according to group size.

As the owner of the Furama International Convention Centre with a capacity of up to 1,000 people, along with 10 other function rooms with a capacity of 50 to 300 people, connected to the Ariyana Convention Centre with a capacity of 2,500 guests, and 6 function rooms, forming the largest M.I.C.E complex in Viet Nam, the Furama Resort Danang is often chosen by domestic and international delegations as the place to organise large M.I.C.E events.

Mr. Prabhakar S. Singh, the Director of Sales and Marketing of the Furama Resort Da Nang, shared that M.I.C.E services make an important contribution to Furama's overall success, accounting for 25% of Furama resort's annual revenue. Currently, the resort is still focusing on developing the domestic M.I.C.E market, considering this to be an important foundation for growth and development. In addition, the resort also actively promotes MICE services to new tourist source markets such as India, Australia and Singapore.

Nguyen Duc Quynh, the Chairman of the Da Nang Hotel Association, assessed that, in Da Nang, M.I.C.E tourism is being hailed as an attractive tourism product, attracting the segment of tourists with high spending.

The service supply chain for M.I.C.E tourism in Da Nang has a complete system of conference rooms, seminars, international exhibition centers, accommodation services, transportation, cuisine, modern sound and lighting, art performances and a variety of products to serve the tourist needs, so Da Nang is still a favourite destination for many tourists, especially those on M.I.C.E tours.

This type of tourists often chooses to go to a conference combined with travel and sightseeing. These advantages help Da Nang exploit diverse tourist sources, without being dependent on certain markets.

Representatives of the Da Nang Department of Tourism also added that, along with attracting M.I.C.E delegations to Da Nang, on promotional missions and participating in tourism promotion fairs, the city's tourism industry regularly introduces partners to Da Nang’s strengths of M.I.C.E, golf and wedding tourism.
