Da Nang asks for helping hand from Sweden in building smart city

Seeking in-depth solutions on smart and sustainable critical infrastructure development was high on the agenda of a working session held by Da Nang and the Swedish Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing on Wednesday.

In his speech delivered at the event, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong emphasised that the smart city development was an inevitable trend in the world and was determined to act by leaders of Da Nang in the coming time.

He also informed that under Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW of the Politburo on developing Da Nang by 2030, with a vision towards 2045, Da Nang eyed completing the construction of smart urban areas synchronously connected with smart urban networks in the country and the ASEAN region by 2030.

Thanks to focusing on investing in building synchronous technical infrastructure and strongly applying information technology and digital transformation associated with smart city construction, Da Nang has so far transformed management and administration from the traditional environment to the digital environment based on digital data and digital technology, he added.

Currently, the city is implementing a project to build an Integrated Center for Green and Smart Urban Resilience Control (smart disaster component of the IOC) funded by the Korean Government through the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) with the goal of building Da Nang into a green, smart, sustainable and safe city from natural disasters.

With initial results achieved in building a smart and sustainable city, Da Nang has been recognised and highly appreciated by international organisations with many awards.

To successfully deploy the building of smart city, Da Nang has set out many important solutions, with a focus on strengthening cooperation with governmental and non-governmental organisations, and domestic and international corporations and businesses, to receive advice, experience sharing, technology access and transfer, and financial support.

He remarked that the event provided a good opportunity for the city to learn, absorb and apply many good experiences and models., plus successful solutions in building sustainable smart cities in Sweden and countries around the world in accordance with the actual situation of the city.

Vice Chairman Cuong asked for helping hand from Swedish government, agencies and businesses to support the city to seek funding sources, and access advanced technologies and practical models in order to accelerate the process of building a smart and sustainable city.

Speaking at the event, Swedish Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Andreas Carlson said that Viet Nam was committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

He believed that Swedish experiences will meet the needs of Da Nang in smart infrastructure construction.

Through information exchange, the working group of the Swedish Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing and the Swedish business delegation grasped a number of fields that they could participate in building a smart infrastructure development strategy, especially in seaports, aviation, and electricity.

He said Da Nang could take advantage of the opportunity to develop a smart, sustainable city, reduce pollution and emissions into the environment, and aim for long-term cooperation to bring a bright future to the people and the two countries.

During the event, relevant departments, branches, and units in the city introduced a number of infrastructure projects that the Swedish Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing and the Swedish business delegation are interested in such as the Lien Chieu Port, a tunnel through Da Nang International Airport, smart city construction, a plan and roadmap for undergrounding the power grid.
