The purpose of the project is to orient and build mechanisms and policies to develop yachting industry and services in the city in each period until 2030 with a vision to 2050 according to Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW dated January 24, 2019 adopted by the Politburo on developing Da Nang by 2030, with a vision toward 2045.

According to the municipal Department of Transport, Da Nang is geographically located at the midpoint of the country, and on the north-south traffic axis. It is considered as a ‘transit point’ to four world heritage sites, namely former imperial capital of Hue, Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary and Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Forest. It is also famous for its convenient connection to sea and island tourist destinations in the region such as Cham Island in Quang Nam Province and Ly Son Island in Quang Ngai Province.

On a regional and international scale, Da Nang is one of the important gateways to the sea from the Central Highlands, to Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar and Northeast Asian countries through the East-West Economic Corridor with the ending point being the Tien Sa Seaport.

Located on one of the international sea and air routes, Da Nang has a particularly favourable geographical location for its rapid and sustainable development. Till date, Da Nang has become into a dynamic, creative city, and one of the country’s major socio-economic centers, gradually increasing its influence in the Southeast Asia region.

In recent years, the local tourism industry has achieved many positive results. With its impressive growth rate every year, the attractiveness of Da Nang’s tourism is increasingly and the city has gradually affirmed its role in developing the tourism industry, in which the development of river tourism has been among the top concern of the city for many years.

According to the experience of some developed countries in the world such as the US and Singapore, Da Nang needs to focus on developing unique waterway tourism products such as floating restaurants, nighttime tourism, and yachts.

In recent years, there has been significant investment in roads, railways and aviation in the city. Meanwhile, the city has yet to pay special attention to develop inland waterways and seaways despite their great potential. The city is still lacking anchorages for tourist boats, and convenient services at ports serving tourists, which is not commensurate with its geographical position and socio-economic development.

On October 22, 2018, the Politburo issued a Resolution on the strategy for sustainable development of Viet Nam's marine economy until 2030, with a vision to 2050 in order to turn the country into a strong maritime nation basically meeting the criteria for sustainable development of the marine economy.

Moreover, under the Resolution No. 43, Da Nang targets to become one of the major socio-economic centers of the country and Southeast Asia, with the role of a hub for startup, innovation, tourism, commerce, finance, logistics, high-tech industry and information technology.

In particular, along with economic development, the average income has gradually increased and the demand for domestic tourism has formed inevitable new tourism products such as cruise ships. This is reasonable to assume that yachting will become a new direction in developing marine and inland waterway tourism, especially in localities with favourable natural and tourism conditions like Da Nang.

According to assessments of the local transport industry, Da Nang boasts a quite diverse river system such as Han River, Tuy Loan River, Cu De River, Yen River, and Vinh Dien River.

Moreover, the downstream area of Da Nang river has a coastline of about 74km, a deep-water bay with Tien Sa seaport, and a continental shelf with a depth of 200m, creating a large shallow water belt suitable for marine economic development and exchange activities with foreign countries

The city has many beautiful beaches such as Non Nuoc, My Khe, Thanh Khe, Nam O, and Lang Van with many interesting natural landscapes having great value for tourism and resort development.

Therefore, the development of the project on developing yachting industry and services in the city is necessary, thereby contributing to creating new development motivation for the city, especially tourism.
