In his remarks at the “Da Nang - Japan Meeting” conference held in the city on Friday, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Tran Chi Cuong emphasised that over the past five decades, Viet Nam and Japan have been joining hands to cultivate their bilateral friendly and cooperative relationship on the basis of cultural similarity and high political trust.

He affirmed that the upgrade of the Viet Nam-Japan bilateral relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World marked an important milestone in their relations, and opened up prospects for local-level cooperation, including the relationships between Da Nang and Japanese partners.

Identifying Japan as one of its potential markets, the city has constantly supported, expanded and strengthened cooperative relationships in many aspects with organisations, localities and businesses from Japan.

Up to now, Da Nang has established official friendly and cooperative relations with four Japanese cities, namely Kawasaki, Sakai, Yokohama and Kisarazu, and also has cooperative relations with 20 other provinces and cities.

Japan is now Da Nang's largest investor in terms of registered investment capital with 261 projects totalling US$1.14 billion.

Vice Chairman Cuong said the purpose of the conference was to connect and attract investment in the fields of high-tech, digital technology, green technology, information technology, electronics, microchips and semiconductors, as well as promote human resource cooperation between Da Nang and Japanese partners.

He also hoped that the conference will provide more useful information, thereby calling on more Japanese businesses, especially new and potential ones, to invest in Da Nang.

According to Japanese Ambassador to Viet Nam Ito Naoki, Viet Nam is one of Japan’s great partner not only in bilateral relations but also in the international arena in all fields such as economics, security, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

This year marked the first year in the next 50 years of the Japan-Viet Nam relationship, so the two countries must concretise extensive cooperation activities in many fields based on the foundation of the good relationship between Japan and Viet Nam, he noted.

The Japanese diplomat emphasised that in recent years, Japanese businesses have been channelling investments in high technology and information technology. This will greatly contribute to help Da Nang achieve its long-term development goal of becoming a centre in Southeast Asia not only for tourism but also for the high-tech and IT industries.

The participants at the conference grasped investment trends of Japanese businesses in the fields of high technology, digital technology, green technology, IT, electronics, microchips, semiconductors, and human resource development.
