Recently, Da Nang city's transportation sector has actively boosted the application of information technology (IT) and the implementation of digital transformation projects in its performance. This, thereby, has improved the efficiency and quality of transportation management and operations.
Notably, the application of IT in management, with the upgraded intelligent traffic system (ITS) integrated many new features such as online traffic monitoring, smart light signal control, congestion warning, and driver support. Along with that, online public services have helped people easily look up information about routes, bus times and ticket prices; buy bus tickets online; pay traffic violation fines online; and register for vehicle inspection, bringing many practical results to people and businesses.
Mr. Le Ngoc Vinh, a resident of Khue Trung Ward, Cam Le District, said that if he wanted to change his driver's licence, he just went to one of 11 qualified medical examination and treatment facilities that support citizens in performing full online public services (level 4) and changing their driver's licence instead of visiting the 'one-stop-shop' site of the Department of Transportation. All he needs to do is to pay the fee online and receive the results at home via post without having to go directly to the 'one-stop-shop' site like before.
Similarly, Mr. Tran Tuan Ngu, residing in Khue My Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, shared that means of public transportation such as buses, taxis, and app-based motorbike taxis supported cashless payments. Therefore, with only a smartphone, you can go anywhere and no need to carry cash. This is also a utility that contributes to minimising cash transactions and improving management efficiency.
According to Mr. Dang Dan, a representative of the Hai Hoang Gia transport service provider, transportation service providers in the city are supported in applying technology to manage vehicles and drivers, optimise routes, and minimise operating costs. At the same time, the traffic data system is regularly updated, providing accurate and timely information to management agencies, businesses and people.
Mr. Ho Nguyen Quoc Cuong, the Director of the Da Nang Centre for Operation of Traffic Signals and Public Transport (DATRAMAC), highlighted the importance of digital transformation in the transportation industry, especially in transportation and control activities, in helping people and tourists access traffic information easily, quickly, accurately and safely; save time and costs; and create favourable conditions for travel, tourism and trade. Meanwhile, businesses benefit from improving operational efficiency, minimising costs, increasing labour productivity, expanding markets, and improving competitiveness.
Director of the Department of Transport Bui Hong Trung acknowledged that digital transformation helped the transport industry increase its effective management, as well as enhance the quality of transportation services, bringing a better experience to people and businesses and promoting local economic development.
To effectively deploy the local transportation industry's digital transformation content, in recent times, especially in the first 6 months of 2024, the municipal Department of Transport has issued a plan to disseminate, organize and carry out assigned tasks, aimed at meeting the requirements of the city’s Digital Transformation project in 2024.
During the 6-month period, the Da Nang Department of Transport received and handled 6,385 online dossiers, reaching a rate of 49.6%, an increase of nearly 30% compared to 2023. The Department coordinated, guided and encouraged health examination facilities to support citizens in performing public services online, and renewing their driver's licences online after medical checkups.
