Da Nang attracts large tourists numbers through interesting events

With the goal of attracting more domestic and foreign tourist arrivals, since the start of the year, the city has continuously successfully organised large international events and festivals, thereby affirming Da Nang's reputation as an attractive destination. Thanks to effective cooperation among relevant agencies and enthusiastic support given by the business community and local residents as well, events have been organised in a more and more professional and innovative manner, meeting the growing needs of tourists.

Once again, the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2024 was held very successfully, receiving high praise and applause from participating teams and the general public, especially visitors from near and far.

After 12 DIFF editions, this was still an event with special appeal to a large number of local residents and tourists. According to data from the Da Nang Department of Tourism, the total number of visitors served by tourist accommodation establishments during the 5 performance nights of DIFF 2024 reached 360,662, up 12% compared to DIFF 2023, 138,037 of whom were foreign visitors, up by 33% and 222,625 were domestic ones, up by 2%.The number of visitors served by tourist accommodation establishments over the one month -long DIFF 2024 reached more than 1.5 million, up 60% from DIFF 2023.

In recent times, in a joint effort to build up the city’s festival event destination brand, Da Nang has continuously treated visitors with a series of unique festival events such as the Viet Nam - Brazil Football Festival 2024 in April, the opening programme of the 2024 beach tourism season in late April and early May, the DIFF 2024; the Da Nang Enjoy Festival in July, the Viet Nam - Japan Festival in Da Nang 2024, the 2nd Da Nang Asian Film Festival - 2024 in July, 13th Southeast Asian Student Sports Festival in June, the VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, the Da Nang International Marathon 2024 and the BRG Open Golf Championship Da Nang 2024. These major events have contributed to attracting a significant number of tourists to Da Nang.

Right after the cited big events ended, the Da Nang Downtown, previously known as the Asia Park, continued to bring about memorable experiences for tourists with a series of attractive new shows such as puppetry and the ‘Symphony of River’, which combines many water sports performances as well as brilliant fireworks displays.

Mr. Lee Hyun Jang, a South Korean tourist, said that the evening atmosphere at the Da Nang Downtown was very different as you can experience shopping and cuisine activities, and enjoy the ‘Symphony of River’ show with many attractive performances, including a beautiful fireworks display.

According to Ms. Mai Thi Thanh Hai, the Deputy Director of the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centre, along with a series of events that are being continuously organised, the city’s tourism industry has also increased promotion and attracted a large number of M.I.C.E. (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) delegations.

In July 2024, the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centre welcomed 30 delegations with a total of about 8,860 visitors, including 14 domestic delegations with 5,600 visitors and 12 international ones with 3,260 visitors. In the January - July 2024, the centre has provided information support and welcomed 112 M.I.C.E. delegations with about 35,143 visitors in total, reaching 73.21% of the estimated target for 2024.

In detail, there were 41 domestic delegations with a total 16,317 visitors, reaching 42.94% of the estimated target for 2024 and 68 international delegations with a sum of 18,826 visitors, reaching 188.26% of the estimated target for 2024.

Outstandingly, 2024 also marks the 3rd edition of the BRG Open Golf Championship Da Nang 2024, a tournament of the Asian Development Tour (ADT) in Viet Nam, which is scheduled to take place at the Legend Da Nang Golf Resort from August 29 - 31, attracting 144 professional golfers at both home and abroad. This event is expected to contribute to affirming Da Nang’s position as ‘Asia's leading destination of events and festivals’.

At the same time, it also marks an important milestone in developing the city’s golf tourism potential to become one of the leading golf tourism destinations in Asia and the world at large, thereby contributing to promoting the development of high-quality tourism, in line with the city’s tourism development orientations.

A senior official from the ADT assessed that, over the years, this tournament has attracted increasingly professional athletes and the influence of the tournament plays an important role in promoting Da Nang as a tourism and golf destination.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai An, the Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Tourism, in order to attract more visitors, the city’s tourism industry has made great efforts with the support of departments, businesses and the community as a whole, to organise many events and festivals of national and international quality, creating the uniqueness of Da Nang.

In addition, the city is constantly striving to diversify its tourism products, enhance visitors’ experiences by adding and renewing events and festivals, and at the same time researching and creating more new and unique events to meet the increasingly high tastes of tourists.
