Attracting many potential golfers

According to the Asian Tour, as of August 15, 131 international golfers had already registered for the tournament. They come from 24 countries and territories worldwide: Thailand, Viet Nam, Malaysia, China, England, Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, the U.S., New Zealand, Singapore, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Taiwan (China), Morocco, Australia, Scotland, Germany, France, Sweden, Canada, Spain, Ireland, and Laos.

As the host, Viet Nam has 20 slots to compete in the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2024, with the participation of some the country’s leading professional golfers namely Tran Le Duy Nhat, Truong Chi Quan, Nguyen Nhat Long, Nguyen Huu Quyet, Doan Van Dinh, Doan Van Nam, Tran Van Hoang, Nguyen Viet Ho and Le Huu Giang.

According to the organisers, this is the first time golfers Tran Le Duy Nhat and Nguyen Viet Ho have competed at the tournament. Golfer Doan Van Nam participates in the tournament for the second time, while the remaining professional golfers all competed in the tournament for the third edition.

Experts say that the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2024 under the Asian Development Tour (ADT) system attracts many talented golfers from all over the world. This is the best playground for Vietnamese professional golfers to compete and learn more experience from international friends.

Over the previous two editions, a number of Vietnamese golfers have passed the qualifying round to enter the next rounds such as Nguyen Huu Quyet, Do Hong Giang, Doan Van Dinh and Truong Chi Quan (in 2022); and Nguyen Nhat Long and Doan Van Dinh (in 2023). Therefore, the organisers expect that this year’s tournament will witness the increasing number of Vietnamese professional golfers passing the qualifying round.

According to Mrs. Mai Thi Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centre, the preparatory works for the tournament are underway. To attract more visitors to the tournament, the organisers plan to issue 4,500 electronic tickets (1,500 tickets/day), of which 3,000 tickets will be for travel agencies, hotels, air passengers at Da Nang International Airport, and those registering online on the tournament's website.

Notably, there will be many sideline activities such as the Professional - Amateur Golf Exchange Tournament on August 28 with the participation of 33 professional and 99 amateur golfers divided into 33 teams.

At the same time, the city will welcome a famtrip delegation of 21 representatives of travel agencies from Japan, Taiwan (China), Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore from August 27 - 30 to survey local tourism products and golf tourism service facilities.

Members of the famtrip delegation will experience services and destinations in Da Nang; attend the welcoming party for the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2024; and meet and connect with golf courses and travel companies in Da Nang.

Enhancing communication and promotion to attract golf tourists

To draw much attention from local people, and domestic and international tourists, the city and the tournament’s organising board have promoted communication and promotion activities on mass media, especially on the Asian Tour website.

Additionally, the municipal Department of Tourism has launched a website at https://danangfantasticity.com/brg-open-golf-championship-danang in both Vietnamese and English to update information, images, and documents about the tournament.

At the same time, the department has coordinated with Golfnews to launch a special page about the tournament on the website https://golfnews.com.vn/.

In the future, the city will continue to strengthen communication on channels and online accounts with international markets (Naver, Kakao of Korea; Xiaohongshu and Doujin of China); and on the fanpage of the Viet Nam Golf Association and Vietnam Golf Tourism Association. In an effort to diversify tourism products, Da Nang is concentrating on boosting golf tourism.

The BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2024 is considered a good opportunity to lure more visitors from this potential market. 2024 is the third consecutive year that Da Nang has hosted an international golf tournament. This shows that Da Nang has sufficient conditions in terms of facilities, human resources, linkage work and other conditions according to the standards to organise large-scale golf tournaments. Therefore, Da Nang has been emerging as a favourite destination for golf tourism among international and domestic tourists.

Director of the Omega Tours Company Nguyen Ngoc Anh said that his company’s popular golf tourism programme often combines visiting some popular tourist spots in Da Nang and Quang Nam and playing golf or vice versa.

Da Nang in particular and Central Viet Nam in general boast many beautiful golf courses along with convenient flight routes for nearby tourist markets such as Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia, he added.

Director Anh underlined a must-do for the local tourism industry to strengthen communication both domestically and internationally, build a golf tourism ecosystem, and create more options for tourists to experience by organising more golf tournaments, in a bid to further develop local golf tourism.
