The Department of Tourism and the Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang, along with some related units, jointly held a press conference on Wednesday to inform about the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2024.

This is the third consecutive year that the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2024 has been hosted by the city with the desire to make golf tourism one of the key products, thereby satisfying the needs of golf tourism combined with relaxation, and affirming the city’s position as Asia’s leading attractive golf tourism destination.

The BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2024 will officially take place from August 29 - 31 at the Legend Danang Golf Resort with the participation of 144 domestic and international golfers. The total prize money this year will be US$100,000.

According to Mr. Nguyen Trong Thao, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports, hosting the tournament for 3 consecutive years from 2022 - 2024 greatly contributes to affirming Da Nang's position as "Asia's leading event and festival destination".

He also emphasised that this was an important milestone in developing Da Nang into one of the leading golf tourism destinations in Asia and the world, contributing to promoting the development of high-quality tourism in accordance with the local tourism development orientation.

In the two previous editions, the tournament attracted more than 4,000 spectators who were fans of this sport, and domestic and international golf tourists watching live at BRG course; and nearly 50,000 people watching the live stream on fanpage, youtube. In particular, it attracted many high-end tourists with high spending.

The BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2024 is part of the Asian Development Tour (ADT) system of the Asian Tour, organized in the stroke play format over 3 rounds of 18 holes (total 54 holes) at the Nicklaus Golf Course in the Legend Danang Golf Resort system.

After 36 holes, 50 players with the best results will enter the next rounds. The player with the lowest overall score after end of the tournament is the winner.

Among the 144 athletes participating in this year's tournament are 20 representatives from Viet Nam, including 8 professional and 12 amateur golfers with impressive achievements.

This year's tournament will have outstanding international golfers participating who have achieved great success in major professional golf tournaments in the regional and world arenas such as Rahil Gangjee (India), Khalin Joshi (India), Ahmad Baig (Pakistan), Natipong Srithong (Thailand), Kosuke Hamamoto (Thailand), and Runchanapong Youprayong (Thailand).

Mr. Ken Kudo, General Director of the Asian Golf Development Tournament, shared that Chen Guxin and Aaron Wilkin, the two champions of the two previous editions, were named among top 10 of the ADT OOM rankings. This helped them advance to the next season of the prestigious Asian Tour, proving the importance of the tournament to the careers of promising professional golfers.

“This year’s tournament once again plays an important role in promoting Da Nang as a tourism and golf destination, and is also a platform to inspire young Vietnamese golfers to pursue their dreams of becoming famous professional golfers” said Mr. Ken Kudo.

According to the tournament’s organising board, in addition to the official tournament BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2024, there will be many other attractive activities such as a welcome party for golfers, a professional - amateur golf exchange tournament, and the Da Nang tourism experience programme.

Boasting many high-class golf courses in Central Viet Nam and the strong development of golf tourism in key international markets, Da Nang identifies the important position of golf tourism in its in-depth market segmentation strategy.

In the first 7 months of 2024, the total number of golf rounds of 3 golf courses in Da Nang reached 98,703, an increase of more than 4,700 compared to the same period in 2023, and the Legend Danang Golf Resort course dominated with more than 66,320 rounds.
