Most notably, moon cake making facilities have all changed their designs and recipes to target young customers, as well as those who care about their health.
Mrs. Duong Tieu Hong, the owner of a mooncake shop at the Nguyen Tri Phuong Market in Hoa Cuong Bac Ward, Hai Chau District, said that in the first 2 weeks of opening for sale, her shop's revenue reached more than VND50 million, up 20% compared to the same period last year.
Her shop’s main customers are wholesalers, many units and businesses that have made pre-orders in large quantities to present to their partners and employees as Mid-Autumn Festival gifts.
According to Mrs. Hong, the majority of her customers have gradually switched from direct to online shopping, focusing on e-commerce platforms. The number of online orders accounts for about 70-80% of the total.
She also pointed out some advantages of buying moon cakes online, including saving time, having many discount codes and being able to return goods.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung, a resident of Phuoc Ninh Ward, Hai Chau District, shared that since COVID-19, she has had the habit of shopping mainly on e-commerce platforms, including moon cakes. Buying moon cakes on e-commerce platforms helps her save time by not having to wander around looking for places to buy or waiting in line to buy. Although online shopping has become a new trend, some people still choose to buy at traditional stores and stalls.
Ms. Nguyen Thi My Hoang, residing in Tan Chinh Ward, Thanh Khe District, said that she and her family often went to display booths to buy moon cakes on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
She explained that, at displaying stalls and stores, she could see and choose the product with her own eyes. Also, this way of shopping helps strengthen the bonding among family members, and show her great devotion if it is a gift for someone. Therefore, buying directly at the store has become an annual habit of her family.
This year, she tends to buy moon cakes based on the factors of ensuring health and protecting the environment from traditional brands.
The highlight of the moon cake market this year is environmentally friendly products, drawing much attention from customers, especially young people.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, the owner of a moon cake production facility in Hoa Xuan Ward, Cam Le District, similar to every year, the two kinds of green bean and mixed moon cakes are still the main products at her facility. In addition, she has imported moon cakes with unique fillings such as green tea, salted eggs, sticky rice, mango, and bacon with eye-catching packaging designs, in line with the trend of young people.
More importantly, these cakes are priced at between VND40,000 - VND70,000/piece, easily accessible to everyone's pocket.
Mr. Dang Sy Khoi, Sales Supervisor of the Huu Nghi Food JSC in Da Nang, informed that the unit has made moon cakes with new flavours with light sweetness, 20% less sugar towards protecting the health of users.
At the same time, the unit uses packaging and preservation methods that are safe for health and the environment such as replacing desiccant packets with oxygen packets; using paper bags instead of plastic bags, and focusing on models and designs with the motto of minimalism but still carrying full content and meaning about the family reunion day.
