On Friday, the Semiconductor Da Nang Day 2024 (Semicon Da Nang 2024) opened at the Ariyana International Convention Palace in Da Nang with 400 delegates attending in- person and online discussions, thereby introducing the potential, advantages as well as readiness and pioneering of Da Nang in developing the semiconductor industry.

Within the framework of the event, on Thursday morning, businesses and investors in the field of semiconductors and information technology (IT) visited Da Nang Software Park No. 2 in Hai Chau District, the Da Nang Hi-tech Park in Hoa Vang District and Viet Nam - Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU) in Ngu Hanh Son District.

Da Nang Software Park No. 2 has a total investment of nearly VND 1,000 billion. The project will be put into use by the end of 2024, featuring a 20-storey ICT office building; two office blocks combined with 8-storey headquarters including ICT1 and ICT2 with a floor area of over 90,000m² along with a system of yards, green landscapes, to accommodate more than 6,000 employees.

Accumulated to July 30, 2024, the Da Nang Hi-tech Park, the Da Nang Concentrated IT Park - Phase 1 and the city’s industrial parks have attracted 523 investment projects; including 399 domestically- invested projects with a total investment capital of VND 34,459 billion; 124 foreign-invested projects worth nearly US$2.08 billion.

In order for investors who have visited the cited sites as well as organisations and individuals to better understand the current situation and development orientation of the semiconductor microchip sector in Da Nang, two conference sessions taking place at the Ariyana International Convention Palace in Da Nang on August 30 provided clearer information.

Specifically, in the morning session with the theme ‘Promoting investment in semiconductor microchips in Da Nang’, the city's leaders informed the attendees of  the orientation and preferential policies to attract investment in the semiconductor microchip sector in the city.

There was a roundtable discussion with the participation of experts and large enterprises in the semiconductor microchip sector. The invited guests were the leaders of the national government, representatives of national  ministries and foreign diplomatic missions in Viet Nam.

In the afternoon session with the theme ‘Connecting supply and demand of semiconductor microchip human resources in Da Nang’, the conference is going to introduce the development of human resources in the semiconductor microchip sector in the city. A roundtable discussion on solutions for developing human resources for microchips is about to be held there.

The ongoing event is an opportunity for the city to promote its preferential investment policies and development cooperation in the field of semiconductor microchips and artificial intelligence (AI) approved by the National Assembly in Resolution No. 136/2024/QH15 on the organisation of urban government and piloting a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of Da Nang.

To enjoy incentives from strategic investors and partners, enterprises and investors, in addition to meeting the requirements on capital, revenue and technology, must sign long-term cooperation agreements with the city in human resource training, technology transfer and investment expansion in the city.

Based on the support and incentive policy orientations approved by the National Assembly, the city is drafting a resolution regulating policies to support the development of the semiconductor and AI sectors in the city to promptly promulgate and apply them in early 2025, contributing to quickly creating a favourable environment; strongly attracting subjects studying semiconductors; experts and intellectuals to work, transfer technology and knowledge, as well as having a mechanism to support businesses operating in the field of semiconductors and AI in the city.
