The move aims to check the establishments’ compliance with legal regulations in this field, maintain production and processing according to correct procedures, and ensure the rights and health of consumers.

The Food Safety Management Team No. 2 under the city’s Food Safety Management Board has just paid inspections to 30 food production and trading establishments in the districts of Thanh Khe, Lien Chieu and Ngu Hanh Son. Accordingly, these establishments have been checked in terms of origin of raw materials, transportation and preservation methods, production and processing process, import and circulation on the market, and the use of food additives, flavourings and colorants in food processing.

According to Mr. Nguyen Phu Phuc, Head of Food Safety Management Team No. 2, in addition to inspection visits, the team also took samples of self-declared products to send for testing of safety indicators. Sampling for testing is necessary, deciding whether the quality of food distributed and provided to consumers is in accordance with regulations or not.

“The results show that the inspected establishments have sufficient legal documents according to regulations such as complying with regulations on periodic health check-ups; having confirmation of knowledge of food safety for the establishment owner and those directly processing and trading food; meeting the regulations on conditions of equipment and tools for preliminary processing, processing, preserving, transporting, and trading food; and using food ingredients with clear origins, full invoices and documents in accordance with regulations. These are necessary and sufficient conditions for the establishments to operate in accordance with legal regulations" said Mr. Phuc.

According to the city’s Food Safety Management Board, food safety work has been implemented evenly and drastically in recent years. However, in reality, this activity still faces many difficulties and challenges, and the food safety situation is still a very complicated and alarming issue. The abovementioned situation is posing new requirements, along with pre-inspection, post-inspection is an activity to consolidate and improve management capacity towards ensuring food safety for consumers.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tan Hai, Head of the city’s Food Safety Management Board, the post-inspection work focuses on self-declared product groups or products at food production and trading establishments. The purpose of the post-inspection activities is to ensure accuracy, objectivity, publicity, democracy, timeliness, and compliance with the law.

Similarly, localities citywide also step up regular and unannounced post-inspection checks on the implementation of food safety regulations and resolutely deal with violations in food production and trading facilities.

The content of post-inspection is also diverse and open in many aspects such as controlling banned substances in livestock, cultivation and aquaculture; and residues of a broad spectrum of pesticides and veterinary drugs. As for small-scale slaughter of livestock and poultry, the functional forces pay attention to controlling the use of salbutamol in animal feedings; and controlling counterfeit, expired and smuggled goods.

Through post-inspection activities, relevant units have widely publicised knowledge, policies, and laws on food safety; promoted the responsibility of businesses and production facilities; and protected the rights and health of consumers, Mr. Hai emphasised.
