The Ministry of Industry and Trade held a national conference on energy saving and efficiency, and a national conference on sustainable production and consumption in 2024, in Da Nang on Thursday.

Delivering her opening speech, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam Giang, General Director of Department of Energy Conservation and Sustainable Development under Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that, over recent years, the Party, State and Government have had many guidelines, policies and strategies which demonstrate the important role of energy efficiency and saving; and promote green transformation, and sustainable production and consumption models in the development of the country's sustainable economy in the present and future.

She highlighted the significance of the conference in evaluating the results of the implementation of the national programme on energy saving and efficiency in 2024, and implementing activities under the programme for 2025 and the following years.

At the same time, the event was an opportunity for participating units to share experiences, obstacles, difficulties as well as advantages to work together towards a green, circular and environmentally friendly economy, she emphasised.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade hoped that all units will realise the importance of energy saving and efficiency, and sustainable production and consumption, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam Giang noted.

Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Van Tru said that Da Nang was one of the pioneering localities in the country to develop itself into an ecological, modern and smart urban area of international stature, with its own unique identity.

He informed that Da Nang has issued and implemented the National Programme Plan on Energy Efficiency and Conservation for the 2020-2030 period, along with the Plan to implement the National Action Programme on Sustainable Production and Consumption for the 2021-2030 period.

These tasks have been integrated into the city's planning and development projects so as to facilitate the sustainable development in the future.

Also within the framework of the conferences, the innovative startup accelerator programme for energy efficiency was launched.

The programme is the first-of-its-kind specifically for the field of energy efficiency in Viet Nam.  Its purpose is to attract investment in innovative solutions on energy efficiency and conservation in the fields of industry, transportation and construction in Viet Nam.

Earlier, on September 18, the Ministry of Industry and Trade launched an online contest "Learning about knowledge about economical and efficient energy use in 2024", organised a talk show "Economic and efficient energy use: Implementation effectiveness and the role of local communication work", and opened its first battery-swapping station in Da Nang for two-wheeler electric vehicles.
