Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, on behalf of the Prime Minister, recently signed a decision to approve the investment policy to adjust the Ba Na - Suoi Mo Ecotourism Complex Project. The official name of the project is the Ba Na - Suoi Mo Eco-tourism and Urban Area Complex. The project's objective is to comprehensively and synchronously develop technical and social infrastructure, and construct commercial, tourism, service, accommodation, and entertainment facilities. The aim is to transform this area into a premier destination for high-quality entertainment, resorts, living, and working in Viet Nam, catering to the diverse needs of both tourists and residents.
The Government has approved an increase in the total investment for the Ba Na - Suoi Mo Eco-tourism and Urban Area Complex project to nearly VND 52 trillion (approximately US$ 2 billion).
The project will feature commercial, tourism and service works, more than 7,000 accommodation rooms, and entertainment areas. Also, two cable lines will be added to bring the total number of cable lines to 10. Station systems, technical and social infrastructure, and other auxiliary works will be built.
The adjustments do not change the previously approved project boundaries, but refine the items and functional areas to enhance suitability and efficiency in exploitation and operation for tourism development.
According to the approval decision, the second stage of the project will last 10 years from the date of approval of the investment policy.
The intention of the project adjustment is to gradually concretise the development orientations in the Da Nang Master Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. This aligns with the development perspective stated in the plan: “Tourism linked with resort real estate, an international event organisation centre, and cultural elements, to create uniqueness, differentiation, and added value to the tourism sector” - one of the three economic pillars of the city.
Along with a series of other large-scale projects being studied to establish the development gravity for new Da Nang after the merger with Quang Nam Province, the Ba Na is identified as a key area that needs to be upgraded to develop beyond the scale of a current amusement park complex.
This area needs to be shaped into an international-class urban eco-tourism complex to commensurate with the new stature of the coastal city of Da Nang - the economic and tourism locomotive of the Central and Central Highlands regions.
Between 2008 and 2024, the first stage of the project was carried out with the thorough investment of Sun Group and achieved many successes. The Sun World Ba Na Hills has become an international-class amusement park complex - one of the tourism symbols of Da Nang.
The Sun World Ba Na Hills Tourist Area has claimed the 'Asia's Leading Theme Park' title at the World Travel Awards (WTA) for 4 consecutive years. It was honoured as World's Leading Iconic Tourist Attraction in 2020 and 2021. During the two years, the Golden Bridge in the tourist area was listed among the most iconic bridges around the world.
