City takes the lead in underwater diving competition
The 2013 National Swimming and Diving Championships are taking place at the Water Sports Stadium in the National Sport Complex, Ha Noi from 8 - 16 September. The event’s participants are 132 divers in 18 teams and 86 swimmers in 16 teams from all across the country. There are a total of 72 sets of medals to be won in the two disciplines. The diving competition has been taking place from 8 to 11 September, and the swimming competition is from 12 - 16 September.
After the first 3 days of the underwater diving competition, Da Nang has won 6 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze and it currently ranks top of the 18 teams. In detail, Nguyen Thi Giang won 2 gold medals in the 1,500m using snorkel and flippers event in a time of 14 mins 21.01 and the 800m event in 7 mins 24.37. Nguyen Thi Lan Vy won gold medals in the 50m event in a time of 19.30 secs and the 200m event in 1 min 35.13. Phan Thi Kim Dung took the gold medal in the 800m scuba diving event with a time of 7 mins 2.74. In addition, the city’s relay team, consisting of Nguyen Thi Giang, Phan Thi Kim Dung, Nguyen Thi Lan Vy and Ngo Thi Thoa, took the gold medal in the 800m using snorkels and flippers relay.
Ho Chi Minh City lie in second place with 5 gold medals, 8 silver and 1 bronze.
The official opening ceremony of the 2013 Championships took place this afternoon, 11 September.
The swimming competition, which will be useful preparation for the upcoming 2013 SEA Games, has attracted the country’s leading swimmers, including Anh Vien, Quy Phuoc and Anh Khoi.
