Da Nang team swim into 2nd place
After the first 4 days of the 2013 National Swimming Championships in Ha Noi, Da Nang’s team currently lies in 2nd place with 8 gold medals and 2 silver behind Ho Chi Minh City with their 13 gold medals, 8 silver and 7 bronze. Most notably, Hoang Quy Phuoc - “the extraordinary man of the Han River” - has won most of Da Nang’s gold medals so far.
In addition to winning 3 gold medals on the second day of the competition, Phuoc set a new national record of 50.45secs in the 100m first leg of the men’s 400m freestyle relay event. This broke his own record of 50.70 secs set in September 2011.

Continuing his winning streak into the third day, Phuoc beat his young rival, Tran Duy Khoi from Ho Chi Minh City, to bring home another gold medal in the men's 100m backstroke in 58.31 secs. Phuoc then clinched the gold medal in the men’s 100m butterfly with a time of 55.35 secs, but this didn’t break his own record of 53.07 secs set in September 2011.
In the men’s 400m freestyle, Phuoc finished in a time of 4 mins 1.60, nearly 5 secs ahead of Lam Quang Nhat from Ho Chi Minh City. He also took a silver medal in the men’s 200m medley in 2 mins 8.49.
On Sunday, Phuoc added another gold medal to his collection in the men’s 50m freestyle, winning in a time of 23.75 secs .
Currently, Hai Phong and Quang Binh both share 3rd place with 3 gold medals, 1 silver and 2 bronze each.
