Local swimmers win 2 gold medals
The 2013 swimming competition is taking place at the Water Sports Stadium in the National Sports Complex, Ha Noi until 16 September. In total there are 86 swimmers competing from 16 teams nationwide.
During yesterday’s first day of the competition, Da Nang won 2 gold medals. Hoang Quy Phuoc won the men's 100m freestyle in a time of 50.88 secs, but this didn’t break his own record of 50.70 secs set in September 2011. In the men’s 800m freestyle relay, the Da Nang team of Nguyen Van Ty, Chau Ba Anh Tu, Pham Truong Giang and Hoang Quy Phuoc clinched the gold in 7 mins 52.39.
The Ho Chi Minh City team lead the competition with 4 gold medals, 2 silver and 1 bronze. In particular, Tran Duy Khoi took 2 gold medals in the men's 200m backstroke and 400m medley. Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen won a gold medal in the women’s 200m medley, and their relay team won the women’s 800m freestyle.
Hai Phong, Quang Binh and Quang Ninh all currently have one gold medal each.
