Acting Coach Nguyen Van Sy has been assigned to train the national football squad until 15 October.  During that time, the team will fly out to Qatar to play a friendly match against their hosts on 9 October, and they will then meet Uzbekistan on 15 October in a first-leg away match of the 2015 Asian Cup qualifying round.  The second-leg will be at home on 15 November, and then the team will play away to the UAE on 19 November and at home to Hong Kong on 5 March 2014.  Currently Viet Nam are bottom of their group having previously lost their first-leg matches to the UAE and Hong Kong.

Acting Coach Sy affirmed that his squad would do their utmost to win all their remaining matches.  However, he noted that during the 2-week training period the team are facing many difficulties due mainly to players recovering slowly from injury and a decrease in their physical strength.
