The Da Nang Cinematography Association has had many successes since it was founded in September 2007.

The association has won a total of 18 gold and silver medals at national television festivals, 14 national journalism awards, 5 Golden Kite awards from the Viet Nam Cinematography Association, and 5 of the city’s literature and arts awards.

For example, in 2010 the association took the national journalism 1st prize for the documentary film Nguoi Giu Thanh Ha Noi (Ha Noi Keeper), the film script 2nd prize for Ho Quy Ly, and a Golden Kite award for the Nguoi  Con Cua Rong (The Son of the Dragon) cartoon.

Most notably, Chiec Chieu Cua Ba Bua (Mrs Bua’s Carpet), directed by Duong Mong Thu, won the Ogawa Shinsuke Prize, the top award in the Asian Documentary category at the 2013 Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival in Japan.

Founded in September 2007, the association now has 53 members, 42 of whom are from the city’s branch of the Viet Nam Television Station (VTV) and the Da Nang Radio and Television station (DRT).  These television reporters have been actively involved in producing hundreds of science and education, children’s, literature and arts, reportage, and especially documentary programmes.

Their work has reflected the diversified and bustling life of Da Nang and other localities in the central region and highlands.  Some of the programmes have featured the city’s large festivals, important political and cultural events, as well as the resistance wars and their aftermaths.

One focus has been on making TV series’, including VTV’s Tay Nguyen – Mien Mo Tuong (Highlands - Dreamlike Destination) with 36 episodes, and DRT’s 35-episode Tram Tich Que Huong (Homeland Hallmarks).  Numerous films have been shot in such foreign countries as Japan, China, Laos, Cambodia, and the Philippines, and some of the films have been sent to international film festivals in France, the USA, Japan, Indonesia and other countries.
