Various events to celebrate Viet Nam Cultural Heritage Day
The Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has announced that various cultural activities will be held in the city to celebrate Viet Nam Cultural Heritage Day (23 November).
Already, 200 pupils from Tran Phu and Thai Phien senior high schools have taken part in a history contest called “Towards the Country's Seas and Islands”. The event aimed to raise the younger generations’ sense of responsibility for protecting the country’s sea and islands.
In addition, as reported here on Wednesday, the Museum of Da Nang is appealing for local residents, researchers, collectors, agencies and organisations to donate any artifacts, documents or pictures of the city to the museum. Of particular interest would be keepsakes of war veterans from the two resistance wars for independence. A ceremony to receive any donated items will be held at the museum on the morning of 22 November.
Also on 22 November, exhibitions will open at the Museum of Da Nang and the Museum of Cham Scuplture.
The Museum of Da Nang will host an exhibition entitled “Back to the Roots” which will feature 24 pictures and other selected works from the 1940s and 1950s by painters from the Indochina College of Fine Arts.
At the Cham Museum of Sculpture, the exhibition “A Collection of Precious Champa Antiques” will include 200 valuable Champa items of pottery, porcelain, and terra-cotta. Also at this museum, there will be a display of 50 ceramic works and oil paintings by artist Dang Nang Tho, and another exhibition showing the 100 winning photos from the recent Viet Nam Heritage Photo Awards 2013 competition. This event will be co-organised by the museum, the Cultural Heritage Association of Ho Chi Minh City, and the magazine Heritage.
