Female walker Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc from Da Nang won the silver medal in the 20 km race at the 2013 Asia Walking Championships which were held in Japan’s Nomi City. She finished her race in 1 hour 35 minutes and 26 seconds.
Since then, Phuc has been training hard with her teammates in order to secure a medal at the 2014 Asia Walking Championships which will be held in Japan in March.

However, the talented walker will now miss the opportunity to compete because she is suffering from dengue fever. The city’s branch of the National Sports Training Centre has asked the National Sports Administration to accept her withdrawal from the forthcoming competition. It was believed that competing in the event would help Phuc gain valuable experience to improve her preparations for the 2014 ASIAD which is being held in South Korea’s Incheon City in September.
