The Da Nang Party Committee Secretary, Mr Tran Tho, met with leaders of the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Tuesday to discuss ways to boost local cultural development.

Secretary Tho stressed the need to develop qualified staff in the city’s cultural sector as well as spend more money on building large-scale cultural works in all districts, and in the city as a whole.

During 2014, the city will give 50% more funding than last year to develop the local cultural sector.  The focus will be on facilitating the construction of the Asia Park project on the southeastern side of the 2 September Peace Monument, as well as appealing for donations from local organisations and individuals to upgrade the 29 March Park.

The Da Nang General Science Library, along with the city’s museums of Cham Sculpture and Fine Arts, will also be upgraded.  Special attention will be paid to creating architectural designs for the city’s 5.6 ha theatre project at the Da Phuoc Urban Area as soon as possible, as well as earmarking an area for the construction of a cultural centre for the city.  The Arts-Cultural Pro-Intermediate School of Da Nang will be upgraded into a college.  In addition, the construction of the Ngu Hanh Son Spiritual and Cultural Park will be expedited.

The city leader also took the opportunity to urge the Department to recommend a key cultural work to be built in the city.  In addition, each local district was asked to suggest a work to be constructed in 2014 and 2015.
