Da Nang swimmer dominates competition
The 2014 National Swimming and Diving Championships ended on Sunday at Thua Thien-Hue Province’s Underwater Sports Centre.
After 5 days of competition, Da Nang’s team topped the medals table with a total of 15 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze. In second place were the team from Ho Chi Minh City with 13 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze. The Hai Phong team ranked third with 4 gold medals, 4 silver and 3 bronze, whilst the Long An team finished fourth with 3 gold, 13 silver and 12 bronze.

After his impressive performances, Hoang Quy Phuoc from Da Nang was the best athlete of the competition. The talented swimmer brought home 15 well-deserved gold medals in individual and relay events. He set a new national record of 3 mins 55.24 in the men’s 400m freestyle, breaking his own previous record of 3 mins 56.17. In the men’s 200m butterfly event, he finished his race in 1 min 58.71. This outstanding achievement broke the previous national record of 1 min 59.55, which was set by Vo Thai Nguyen.
