Da Nang team dive into 3rd place
The 25m-pool diving competition of the 2014 National Swimming and Diving Championships ended on Tuesday at Thua Thien-Hue Province’s Underwater Sports Centre. There were 89 divers competing, in 13 teams from across the country.
After the 3 days of competition, the team from Ha Noi came 1st with 6 gold medals, 3 silver and 9 bronze. Ho Chi Minh City’s team finished 2nd with 5 gold medals, 12 silver and 3 bronze, and Da Nang came 3rd with 4 gold medals, 5 silver and 2 bronze.
After impressive performances, Nguyen Thi Lan Vy was Da Nang’s best athlete. She won gold medals in the 300m using snorkel and flippers event in a time of 3 mins 33.01, and the 200m event in 1 min 37.47. In addition, Vy and the other members of the city’s relay team - Nguyen Thi Giang, Dang Thi Minh Thuy and Ngo Thi Thoa - took gold medals in the 400m and 800m using snorkels and flippers relays.
Nguyen Thi Giang won the bronze medal in the 800m using snorkel and flippers event in a time of 7 mins 31.65 which broke her previous personal best of 7 mins 32.09. The city’s ladies’ relay team set a new national record of 6 mins 42.34 in the 800m using snorkels and flippers relay, breaking their previous record of 6 mins 45.42.
